Description

Area 51 started off life as an arcade game based on the CoJag hardware system. The game itself is your standard light gun shooter affair that takes the player through several sections of the facility, as they fend off wave after wave of mutants and later aliens as they make their way to activate the nuclear self-destruct sequence and the ultimate final battle. There are 5 different weapons avalible during play, a semi-automatic pistol, an automatic machine gun, a pump-action shotgun, an automatic shotgun and grenades. Area 51 allows the players to start at the beginning of the game or warp ahead to the middle. There is also a Kronn Hunter mode that can be accessed but shooting only the first 3 STARR team members you encounter and nothing else and also is know to contain several hidden rooms and areas. Graphically the game uses digitised character images and explosions set over pre-rendered and 3D models backdrops and vehicles.
