Buying for the sake of buying

Postby Pondis » Tue Aug 14, 2012 12:01 pm

I was in a charity shop the other day and found a review copy of RC de GO! on the PS1 and a sealed copy of... Im not sure, its a backgammon game on the PS1, and i have no idea how to play, but it has the little Playstation rip tab on it so I just bought it.

Ok, they ere only £1.25 each, and it is charity, but does anyone else buy things just because?

All the time, my worst is at car boots or flea markets and I end up buying massive lots simply because I end up getting much better prices the more I buy.

Its great getting home and trying them out but I always end up not wanting half of what I get, and the GF just laughs at me and shakes her head.

I go to a lot of car boot sales too, and on slow days especially I usually buy things I wouldn't normally consider just to justify going in the first place!

I totally recognize this, I buy a lot of lots and try to get my money back by selling a few items. What's left is kept in the collection.

I have been known to pick up what i think is a bargain with the sole purpose of resale, then see its not going for anything and keeping it. It SHOULD be worth more in the future after all, i just have to keep it long enough.

Yup me too, I've stopped buying stuff for a while, I found myself going into Gamestation and just buying stuff because it was 49p a game, most of which I will never play, I now only buy certain things that will be an asset to my collection.

I think as collectors we should all become aware of this and try to limit ourselves to what we are focusing on and our budgets.
I'm sure you can find the games somewhere else when you really want to someday.

If they are really rare this is an entirely different story.

I think when you give into temptations of getting too many good deals you end up missing out on the stuff you really wanted to get. It's really gets to you after a while.

It's also frustrating because in many cases (depending on your spending habits) you might need to compromise cash for things like transportation, clothes, going out, dining and you have to get frugal sometimes. It's not worth it.

Also this goes for collecting variants, limited editions, sealed or double copies and re-purchasing games you've already owned.

Its part of the fun though. I tend to buy a lot and store it all away.

Then I wait till the GF says I need a sort out, and she leaves me alone and lets me put aside a full day to sit with one console play on all the games and decide which ones to keep and which ones to move on.

Like today for instance, she has gone out with her sister for the day and took the kids with her..She left at 9AM she will be back around 7pm. A trip to the shops to stock up on snacks and I have spent the rest of the day going through around 40-50 megadrive games and maybe sort out my NES doubles.
