Big Box PC collectors?

Postby Pondis » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:16 am

Any big box pc collectors around?

Im not in anyway a pc gamer. I do play pc games, but ot in as big a way a consoles, but I seem to have amassed a respectable PC collection as of late.

I have Tomb Raider 1 and 3 unfinished business which have a few extra missions tacked on, a new addition is Heart of Darkness with the red / green 3D glasses that have never been used and Hellboy with 'Realistic graphics' containing the squarest heads I have ever seen.

Of course my favorite is still Final Fantasy 7. Itll never be played because I hate the pc port, and after the PS1 copy that i have played on PS1, PS3 and PSP I think I am pretty much done with FF7

Since I collect to play I like to have the definitive version of a game and most times that's on the PC if it's not a console exclusive so yeah I collect PC big and small box, if you will. I didn't know Heart of Darkness came with 3D glasses though, I don't see a 3D mode in the game?

Ill put some photos up later and show you the glasses, but according to wikipedia...

'The game was released with a pair of red/green 3D glasses so that certain scenes can be viewed in 3D.'

I've got a few Big Box PC games that I've picked up over the years, the latest being System Shock 2 for £3  I don't pik up too many due to the storage issue.

I do love collecting Big Box PC releases for my Megaman collection. I've got a couple of shelves full of various releases in different size boxes (some fairly small, some pretty damn big!). As a rule the art on most of the boxes tends to be really nice (a couple of the Japanese/Asian releases especially).

I love big box PC games and I always pick them up when I see them. I have quite a small collection at the moment because of storage issues (I have 3 large crates in my loft full of the boxes already). Once I move house I'll be looking to expand my collection a bit more.

One of my most recent big box finds was a brand new sealed copy of Theme Park. Picked it up in the charity shop for a couple of quid. And one of the big box games that I'm really keen to add to my collection is 'Sonic and Knuckles'. I won a nice looking copy of it on ebay about a year ago for next to nothing, and the flipping thing got lost in the post. I've not seen another one listed since :(

Got lost in the post or never got sent?

Makes you wonder when you find something really cheap!

I have sold a few Big box games i wish i still had, like the original KingPin, went for £5 and i paid £1 so not bad, but nicer to have kept now i think

I don't really collect big box PC games, but I have acquired a few from some of the charity shops that I visit.

From what I remember I've found Age of Empires, Settlers 2 + Mission CD expansion , Civilization CTP, Mario is Missing, Final Fantasy 7, Sim City (For mac) and probably some others.

I surprisingly only have 1 big box Tomb Raider PC game and that is TR2: The Golden Mask. I will eventually try to get the rest of them and the american trapezoid box versions :)

What a great sight!

I used to collect point and click adventure games on PC but sold them all some time ago

I'd like to collect them again even if I don't play them (I use dosbox due to the space a PC takes up!)

Lovely collection! Most of my PC games are small box it has to be said. Those big boxes do take up an awful lot of room

Oh yes the System Shock games are real classics, would love to add an original copy of each to my collection. I must work on getting them going on Windows 7 too.

I couldn't get the first running but I do have a tutorial somewhere which got the second working like a dream if you want it?

I'd be interested in that as well. I got the second game recently and any help getting it running well on Windows 7 would be appreciated :D

the 1st one is strange in dos box. on some systems it runs at 400% speed! so yeah, not so ideal.

as for system shock 2, there is a tool which you can download which patches the game ready to play on newer systems which you can find here. http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=392.0 attached to the bottom of the first post. so download that in preparation. I will vouch for the file as it does not contain any malware or virus's, it explains in the tutorial that it may give a false positive but i assure you its 100% fine.

Now instead of running the install from disc go to your disc drive (with system shock 2 in tray) and copy/paste the entire SHOCK folder onto your desktop (anywhere else is fine except for programme files.)

Install and run the SStool and point it towards your SHOCK folder, click next and it will do the rest for you. you should then be able to install the game like before. this time however without bugs associated with earlier builds.

Ive a few big boxes but I did discard some when I was younger to save room. The ignorance of youth. I play most modern games on PC, haven't owned a console since the Dreamcast, so I've a good number of PC games. Not all have big boxes though.

Thanks Grizzly, I'll look into both System Shocks then when I get chance. I've been able to get most of my old PC games running like new on Windows 7 so far.

Due to how much space both PC and Amiga games take up, I only collect the ones that I grew up with or really really want for whatever reason. I think my most treasured PC Big Box games have to be the two Little Big Adventure games, various Lucasarts adventures and the almighty Krush Kill 'N' Destroy.
