Funny Moments in Gaming.

Postby UltraMagnus » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:55 pm

After spending a few hours in the pub with some friends that I have known since we were kids, we got taliking about the usual nostalgic stuff like classic games, 80's cartoon shows, and how G1 Transformers will always be better than the new stuff.

As per usual it turned to stupid things done in the past and funny stuff that happens, as usual it always involves one person completely losing their **** or being the butt of a joke.

A couple of gaming ones.

A group of us going down the town with a friend to buy a megadrive game. we were only ten and he had saved for months to get this game. on the bus on the way home the game was passed around for everyone to have a look. Someone took the game out and give him it back. Of course he completely lost it when he got home accued us all of stealing it. we managed to convince him noone had touched it. We ended up going all the way back with him, laughing our heads off when the staff obviously never believed him. Then all of a sudden he broke down in tears and actually started sobbing. Took him a few days to talk to us again.

One Annoying friend who practised on pro Evo on the PS1 every day and destroyed us whenever we played. To make it worse he was avery bad winner. Now we got sick of this and slowly over time totally doctored some **** teams to have top stats. he was playing as brazil and getting destroyed all the time and us all laughing at him made it worse. One day out of nowhere he just lost it threw his joypad and smashed a very expensive statue his mom had. WE all pissed ourselves watching him explain to his mom how the cat fell from the top of the cabinet onto the statue and smashed it. Even now something like 15 years later he always demands to see the stats of our teams when we get together for a game on the latest Fifa of PES

Not really retro but my Favourtie.

I already had a 360, and a freind had just bought one. we went back to mine and decided to set it up and test it out. Now my friend was aware of the redlight situation but not totally clued up about it. so when I set it up I left the AV cable out on purpose ( if you dont know you get a red light error message on the old white consoles if you turn it on without the AV cable ) and I honestly thought he was going to start crying ( he was 25 at the time ) he accused me of breaking it, he accused me of doing all sorts to it, he even blamed it on the " **** **** **** up mains sockets in my house " He never did, and never has seen the funny side of it, yet the rest of us think its hilarious.

Anyone else

Great thread! I have 2 that I can think of..

My ex housemate had never played double dragon.. Bought it on 360, got some beers on and started playing. Forgot to mention that we twat each other at the end. So I dropped off the spikes at the bottom on the end boss to come back full health, then proceeded to kick the dickens out of him! I got the achievement, he got nothing and he still has never played it since.

Same ex housemate - an utter achievement whore. Id seldom sabotage him getting them in co op games and it used to drive him insane. Watching him fail miserably at doing things ie breaking in horses on red dead only for me to come along and two minutes later to have done it. In the dictionary his face is next to RAGE QUIT.

I have an embarassing one :?

I was 11 when I got my first console, a Sega master System, I got it for christmas, It was the original one with duck hunt & hang on built in.
I didnt get any carts for christmas & I was happy playing the built in games, around February time, I had saved up enough money to buy my first cartridge, (Rampage).
I couldnt wait to get home to play it, bearing in mind I had come from the C16/C64/Spectrum generation & was used to cassettes.
When I got home with 2 of my friends, I plugged the game in, but not knowing how these things worked!!! :? I didnt push the cart down all the way in fear of breaking it, I switched the SMS on & I was greeted with the hang on/duck hunt select screen!
Rarther than being rational about it (& being 11) I kept turning it on & off, & then I had a massive paddy!
VERY EMBARASSING, as my mates were watching!
I remember getting so worked up, I was actually crying & shouting things like "nothing ever works for me" & I remember throwing the box across the room!
then my mum came in & pushed the cart down & switched the game on! :|

& another one,
When I was about 15/16 Street Fighter 2 was all the rage & a friend from school was very good at it (Arcade Version)
There was a SF2 cabinet in our local arcade & one Saturday I had wandered in, my friend from school was there playing against some random bloke who thought he was awesome at it, my friend was getting hammered & was hardly doing anything.
This bloke was loving it & was laughing & gloating about it, when they finished my friend handed over some money, (they had been betting on it) then he asked the bloke for one more try! double or quits! they put all their money in, more than £40 if I remember right,
They started off again, first round went to this bloke, then my friend looked at me & winked. ;)
then all hell broke loose, my friend had been hustling this guy all along & then just ripped him to shreds he was smashing his character into the ground & pulling off move after move, this guy was panicking & mashing the buttons, my friend pulled off 2 Perfect rounds.
LOL
The bloke was literally crying!

I'm going to copy and paste something I wrote about in 2004 on another forum, a great memory of Resident Evil from 1996.

In 1996 I had just reached the grand age of 10. I didnt have a console at the time as my parents quite rightly opted for the cheaper home computer route (Spectrum, Amiga and PC). I remember getting the latest issue of PC Format magazine and quickly booting up the cover disc, ready to enjoy the wealth of demos bundled this month.

The one which stood out most was the PC version of Resident Evil. At the time I had heard that the game was meant to be rather scary, but the addition of 15 certificate printed on the cover made it all too tempting and a must play given my young and naive age. I decided this was a moment that should be shared, so I invited my best friend James over, popped in the disc, installed the demo and got going.

Aside from a few chills from the title screen and the first zombie encounter we were left wondering what the fuss was about. 15? You're having a laugh... We spoke to soon. Arriving at the notorious dogs-jumping-through-the-window scene, one which at the time we were unaware of, was set to change our gaming lives forever...

ARRRGGHHHHHHHH - two high pitched undeveloped voice boxes begin emitting a scream!

My panicked mother comes running through wondering what on earth has happened while we're trying our best to close the game down. Needless to say we never played the game again and it wasn't until I turned 18 that I decided to revisit the series, one which happens to now be one of my all time favourites.

Sadly though James is no longer with us (not because of Resident Evil might I add), but this is by far one my fondest, yet horrifying, memories I had with him during his short life.
