Best title made by Rare?

Rare is probably one of the most underappreciated video game companies ever. Which is sad because they have done so much for the video game industry. To celebrate this terrific company, which titles that involve Rare's involvement are your favorites?

I currently own Banjo-Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing, and Blast Corps, all titles by them.

only game i know i have played by them is Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, but that was back when the games was brand new, and it was a great game as far as i can remember

I'm not sure they are under-appreciated, during the N64 era when they made their best games, including the ones you mention, they were very much appreciated. Without Rare games and in particular Goldeneye, the N64 would have been a much poorer console. They aren't looked at as a great games company any more, simply because they haven't managed to repeat their now distant past N64 success since parting ways with Nintendo and joining up with Microsoft.

Has to be donkey Kong on the snes for me.. And more recently viva pinata on 360 - a brilliant brilliant game!

For some off pisté classics, Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll & Super Offroad on NES were amazing.

Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong Country are my favourites. Goldeneye is also a fun game and Viva Piñata entertained me for a couple of hours. Donkey Kong 64 I could not stand at all. I really think all their platformers during the N64 era looks incredibly dull. Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll I have to try sometime.

Conkers bad fur day on the n64.... And also the remake on the xbox are easily my fav rare games followed by perfect dark and goldeneye...

That's what I thought too - I would suggest that Rare are one of the most well-known, multi-award winning and revered development teams in the world, but then I noticed that the original poster if this thread is in the USA? so maybe Rare are not held in the same high esteem as they are here in Europe?

For my tuppence worth - the first game I ever purchased was Jet Pac for my brand new 16K Sinclair Spectrum in 1982 with my pocket money and the stuff that Ultimate Play the Game (who I'm sure most people know evolved into RARE) produced in the early 80's will always have a place clost to my gaming heart. I'm sure many of you will have gathered by now that I am a big N64 fan and it was the likes of Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps, Goldeneye and Conker's Bad Fur Day which stood them out from the crowd in the 64-Bit era. I couldn't possibly pick out a favourite, there have been too many. Perfect Dark Zero on the XBox 360 was an absolute stinker though.

Don't worry, we appreciate them in the USA. It's just Microsoft has made them less well-known.They made Kinect Sports, but nobody knew that.

Has to be Blast Corps, excellent original game.

The only decent game they have made since the N64 is Viva Pinata, and maybe Perfect Dark Zero. Other than that.....where the F are they?

Banjo Kazzoie was a masterpiece in my humble opinion, they squeezed so much into the cartridge it was unreal. but as a left field suggestion i would say Blast Corps is one of the most fun games i have played by Rare, really hard though.

Conker's BFD for me,so underrated.The graphics were the best on the N64,no competition.Great fun too.

I'd agree Blast Corps was a belter of a game, and of course GoldenEye 007 too

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and R.C. Pro AM were all fantastic games. I've never been too nuts about their platformers but truth be told the 3D platformer hasn't really interested me much since SM64.

however much I love Banjo, Conker, etc., there's one title which imo stands out amongst the crowd: Cobra Triangle for the NES

I rented that game enough times to warrant at least one purchase of it

Same this way. I started off with Jetpac on the beeb, moving on to Sabre Wulf and the isometric adventure/puzzlers on me 48k speccy. I thought they were all great and honestly couldn't pick a clear winner from knight lore, alien8 or head over heels.

Moving on, I loved Battletoads vs Double Dragon, RC Pro Am, DKC, Blast Corps and Goldeneye, Viva Pinata.

I couldn't really pick a winner as they all come from a different era representing the particular tech capabilities of a particular generation. It simply wouldnt be fair to compare jetpac to goldeneye. Out of them all though, I think I've probably spent the most time on Goldeneye so if I had to pick one...i'd guess I'd go for that.

Banjo Kazooie - Nuts & Bolts is the latest title I've heard from them
and despite it's somewhat simple nature, I like that game quite a lot... some innovative concepts there

I really like Kameo, because it looked great when it was being made for the GC, so i bought one as Resi 4 was released (which is my favorite Resi game because i suck at not shooting things in the face a lot) and then it was pushed onto the 360 which i bought on release anyway.

Long story short, Kameo was good

It's a toss up between Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye 007 for me. Someone from their headquarters purchased one of my games from ebay just the other day! Will leave them a note with my package just to express my gratitude

I think if any under appreciates them it's Microsoft themselves! Saying that, I very much doubt the Rare of today is anything like the Rare of yesteryear. I'd imagine a lot of peeps have moved on elsewhere now.

I can't really pick a single Rare game as there are far too many note worthy ones, particularly the N64 era obviously. But I will pitch my vote for Jet Force Gemini as I don't think it's had a mention yet and definitely deserves one.
