Gameboy Collectors Unite!

Postby hash47 » Tue May 15, 2012 11:29 pm

So, i had a look and could not see a thread for us gameboy collectors to discuss the system and games! Be it GB, GBP, GBC, GBA or GBA SP systems or games here we shall unite! :D

I personally love collecting Gameboy Consoles and i am currently aiming for a full set of Gameboy Pockets (Boxed), and then i will move onto GB and GBC systems. Seeming as a collect the systems i obviously collect gameboy games too, i've got a bunch of GB and GBC games and a smattering of GBA games currently, however i am planning at getting all the good GBA games in the next year or so.

Personally as much as i would love to collect CIB GB games, the price and rarity of CIB is too much for me so i pretty much settle for cart only for most games. I would love to know if anyone is going for a full GB collection on these forums, i know a few people on NintendoAge are aiming for/have a complete CIB gameboy collection which i find staggering! :o

Can't say I'm a diehard GB collector however with limited space living at my parents ATM I have resorted to collecting handhelds as and when they come along and the majority of them have ended up as GB's lol! So far I have

Gameboy original Grey (boxed)
Gameboy original Yellow (unboxed)
Gameboy Colour Grape (boxed)
Gameboy colour Teal (boxed)
Gameboy colour Yellow (unboxed)
Gameboy colour Grape (unboxed)
Gameboy Advance Orange (Asian, boxed)
Gameboy Advance Purple (boxed)
Gameboy Advance SP Silver (boxed)
Gameboy Advance SP Tribal (unboxed)

Wow that's a bit of an eye opener seeing it all listed there lol :P

Accessory wise I've got the usual aftermarket carry cases and magnifiers etc. only worthwhile accessory I have is my Saitek Boosterboy which I picked up tonight, such a quirky piece of kit lol! Games wise I haven't specifically been collecting anything special but managed to end up with a couple decent stuff such as Doom GBA etc :)

I think last time i counted i was nearing 30 consoles =S, not too sure now as i sold some and bought some :D. I saw your GB find in the other thread and was thoroughly impressed, the BoosterBoy always makes me chuckle though! Somehow it transforms a handheld console into some cumbersome beast reminiscent of the tabletop games.

Also the console which really stands out to from your list is the GBA Orange, such a cool looking console. The GBA had some fantastic editions released which i would love to get my hands on, but i have to direct my efforts towards the GBP lol.

Currently i'm playing some cool Japanese game called Chalvo 55 (i think), i really need to start getting GBA like final fantasy and fire emblem though.

Thanks bud, 30 consoles!? That just all Gameboy stuff? I mustn't have far off that in general but that's my list of Gameboy only stuff.

I know yer I spotted it on eBay and was like wtf is that!? It's really cool though haha! As you say, turns a portable console into some ginormous plastic self defence weapon lmao! I love it though lol!

Arrr right, funnily enough I got given the orange GBA! I'll have to get a pic of all the 'boys together haha! I'm proper hankering for a GB Micro!

Yeah, only GB consoles =S but i sold all my GBA consoles a little while ago so not too sure what the count is at now. I'm at Uni currently and majority of them are at home so i will get a picture in a few weeks!

Here's a more recent picture of just the Gameboy Pockets,

But now i also have
Another GBP yellow (Boxed)
GBP Extreme Green (Boxed)
GBP Silver/Silver screen (Japanese box - like the gold console above)
GBP Silver/Silver screen (Small Pal Box)
GBP Silver/Black screen (Normal pal box)
GBP Pink (Boxed)
GBP PInk (Japanese)
GBP Green (Japanese)

I will probably sell the Japanese duplicates at some point, managed to get them cheap from japan with some other stuff.

LOVE that green GBPocket. I have a see-thru acid green one that I picked up for a fairly low price.

I remember the one in your pocket was called "Relish Green." In fact, all the system colors were "condiment-oriented."

While I am not a collector of Game Boy, I am very much an enjoyer of the platform as a whole. If it was not for the ghosting effect on the Game Boy Pocket screen, I would probably not leave home without it. The Game Boy Color does improve upon that, but instead it has a, in my opinion, too small screen compared to the Pocket.

It is a very nice and quite impressive collection up there in the pictures alone. I honestly had no idea that they made a Pocket in the same colors as the original Game Boy (DMG-01). Despite loving my green Pocket, I would really love to have a classical looking device like that.

Great to see other fellow gameboy collectors on this site! I am going for a complete GBC console sett. Trying to get them all boxed but there are the ones like the aussie green/gold one that are almost impossible to get. So far I only have the dandelion, berry, and atomic purple ones boxed. I also have a limited edition pokemon one (gray/silverish one) boxed and l have a glacier gba.

But I have only been collecting for a month so yeah...

I know what you bean about the Aussie console, really hard to find boxed and the only found out what the box looked like after someone managed posted it here. (Can't remember who it was, lucky sod though!) Nice to know i'm not the only crazy person collecting the consoles themselves, I've been looking to buy a Pokemon GBC, but the prices seen too high currently :( .

I'm also a Gameboy collector and i've currently got over 100 CIB games and the folloying consoles:
Original Gameboy CIB
Green Gameboy Pocket CIB
Clear Gameboy Pocket CIB
Blue Gameboy Pocket CIB
Red Gameboy Pocket CIB
Yellow Gameboy Pocket CIB
Pink Gameboy Pocket CIB
Black Gameboy Pocket CIB
Silver Gameboy Pocket with silver screen CIB
Ice Blue Limited Edition CIB
Gameboy Advance Clear CIB
Black Gameboy Advance SP

There all PAL release except the Ice Blue which is a US release. I hadn't planned on going for the full PAL set of games but i'm hoping to get as many as i can and if i can get close to it then why not. I'm not really aiming for collecting any of the gameboy colour range, just mainly the original games and systems. I'm currently focusing on completing my Game Gear PAL games collection so i'm only getting the odd thing Gameboy wise but i'm still on the hunt for the silver gameboy pocket with the black screen.

Sweet collection, i got all of my silver consoles all in the last month, went a bit mad! I had some extra cash and was looking to fill a get a few of the common consoles i was missing like silver variants and pink. I was getting annoyed at the high prices and lack of listings on ebay and ended up buying the silver console silver screen in the small box just for the sake of it! (wanted to find the normal pal box version).

Then i managed to get the Japanese boxed one to pair with my gold console from another site, i couldn't pass up on the deal/opportunity so i bought it with a bunch of cool Japanese games!

After that i just needed the black screen variant, stumbled across a japanese listing of a american console with a bunch of Gapanese games, although it was a little more than i normally spend on a console the games made it worth while!

That's how i ended up with three different silver gameboys in like 2-3 weeks, after not buying any gameboys for months!

I've seen the silver pocket with the black screen twice in the last month or 2 come up on ebay in a bundle with other consoles but the sellers refused to sell me the pocket on its own. I'll get it eventually then i'm hoping to add some of the Japanese releases. I love the pocket in the original gameboy colours, i think it's the Famitsu edition.

That sounds annoying, shame the seller won't split as they would probably get more money that way!

As for Japanese Consoles there are a few sellers/shops which are pretty good.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/usedvideogameyamatokuclassic

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/nintendohandheldclub?_rdc=1

The first one does very low start auctions with varying quality of items, and they normally list 10 or so gameboys at a time including a few Japanese only releases. Postage isn't too bad and they are really good at combing postage on items.

The second has really good/rare items but they are a tad expensive, they are pretty workable on prices though!

Yup, I love looking at GB photies as well! :D

It's gonna be difficult digging all the bits out for a piccie but I'll see what I can round up and get a piccie over the weekend - some of my stuff's been vaulted though so I won't be able to capture everything together.
