Anyway, I have to say that there's plenty of elitism around. Basically people who know a lot about a certain subject or have more games for X system than others tend to put points across rather rudely as if talking down to those they consider 'beneath' them. It's almost as if some people consider themselves 'Gods' of a certain subject and anybody who doesn't know as much or is just starting out gets talked to as if they are some sort of tragic slave...or something.
All everybody wants is for gamers and collectors to speak to each other on equal terms and not as if a bigger collection or wider knowledge automatically elevates them to a higher status.
Having said that, there are plenty of people on forums like this who have huge collections or lots of knowledge and are perfectly sound folk. In general, this is definitely one of the better forums and if I were more collector-minded then I'd stop by more often for sure.
As for Retro Gamer, it's my primary forum these days and I can see why people have pointed out certain issues but it's only a select few users who tend to needlessly escalate innocent debates into slanging matches so the rest of us just carry on regardless. Most will have different views on what is retro and what isn't but the resulting banter usually isn't insulting at all but quite jokey. There are some abrupt comments for certain but I just roll with it.
Anyway, if anybody thinks RG is bad then try Eurogamer forums (permitted swearing and nasty insults aplenty...well that's how it was a few years ago anyway, probably still the same) or blatantly elitist places like Neo Geo forums or certain schmup communities.
