HMV - daft pricing

popped into HMV on the way to work and noticed that they are selling Kid Icarus for £2 more second hand than they are brand new, seems a bit odd then i noticed that they are selling u-draw disney princess on the wii for £55 second hand but brand new for £29.99.

who is actually in charge of pricing up games in there, makes no sense at all. thought GAME were bad, perhaps HMV have recruited some old redundant GAME managers

Well HMV are in dire financial straits as well, and with examples of dumbassery like that it's no surprise really.

I don't wish HMV gone, nor GAME; I love wandering around a store like that and looking at things I might want. Online shopping isn't the same really - you don't browse, you search for and get exactly what you want. The number of movies and games and albums I've picked up from stores like that in the past is astronomical and I'm glad for each one.

But what I do wish, sincerely wish, is that HMV would change their entire management staff. Get some fresh blood in for fresh times. GAME should have done that as well, and they might not have died the first time.

HMV Replay pricing is a joke. Their pricing for the majority of the stuff is ridiculous. But, a very small portion of the games are priced nicely. These are such a minority, that I've pretty much memorised them (mostly the wii ones).

wii Final Fantasy crystal bearers £5 (same as cex)
wii Sengoku Basara £5
wii Muramasa £8
ps3 Battle Fantasia £4

Gamestop is similar (at least here), and pricing seems to be dictated from management...
They had One Piece: unlimited Cruise (or something) for the 3DS: Just the game new for 60 bucks, and the limited edition for 50. I asked the guys at the counter why that is, and they simply said they stopped wondering about the price politics.

Really strange is when two new games, both absolutely identical, are priced differently. Dafuq, I say.

I popped into Game/HMV and couldn't belive the pricing it's actualy insane im talking Tescos are at least £10 cheaper on new games.

From now on ill be going to cash converters or similar shops for pre-owned or even better just by new from Tesco or other supermarkets

Iv'e seen similar things in Tesco but not to this extent. Theyve had second hand games at say, £19.99 and then new at £20

I hate HMV. I just find their prices awful and honestly their managing staff dont have a clue what they're doing.

The manager in more local one when i was checking out some of the prices on some of the Anime/Anime series was chatting to a colleague who she felt had messed up the said display.
She had a go at her for putting more expensive anime at the front. Namely Hellsing Ultimate, Ghost in the Shell, Gurren Lagann and Full Metal Alchemist and she informed her colleague and i quote "The Cheaper stuff sells better and is more well known".

Like **** is it, she was putting the best selling series off all time out of the way in place of something even i hadnt heard of.

CDs that have been out for over 7 years are in their "2 for 10 pound" sales.
DvDs that are 4 years old are still 6.99 and EVERY far eastern film is a min of 15 quid...

The reason these "Massive" shops are all going out of buisness is because of places like CeX where you can find most of the stuff at least half the price...

Totally agree. Also, that the 'mega' stores just simply do not have the interest or mobility to react to a fast paced market. Their £30 used games were probably worth that much second hand on the game's launch, but if they want a chance of actually selling them ever, then they must realise that their competition on movies and games is no longer Andy's Records, Virgin Megastore and Comet/Currys/Dixons - it's Ebay, CEX, Amazon and Tesco/Morrisons/Asda/Sainsburys.

It's too easy for the out of touch executives to blame the supermarkets and online competition. They tend to hide behind these excuses to mask their own inadequacies and dated strategies.

I feel that Sony as a corporation are heading the same way but that's for a different day....

The HMV website is poo. Many a times I've tried to locate certain stock on the HMV website and the item either shows as 'cannot be found' or that there is none in stock - when I've blatantly seen loads of stock on shelves.

Same advice for HMV that I had for GAME. Downsize your physical presence, sort your prices out (compete), stop doing rubbish sales (people see through this now) and take your websales seriously. You can't survive on Christmas sales alone. Yes, we're in a financial lull - that means you have to think smarter.

Though i can't complain about everything.
They for some reason had Big Bang Theory seasons 1-4 boxset for 21 pound.

The main thing that made that intriguing was season 1 was next to it for 16 pound and season 4 was 'on sale' for 28 pound...
Already had seasons 1 + 2 but couldn't not buy the set at that price...

not HMV but GAME today, in their special offers shelf they had Sky Captain dvd for the earth shatteringly low price of £11.99 pre-owned!!

who in their right mind nowadays would ever pay 12 quid for a second hand dvd?

and also shinobi on 3ds is 4 quid more expesive to buy second hand than new in there

Yeah, worth a try though! Some people on hotukdeals got theirs. But that was 1 in the hundreds that were ordered. Worth a shot :p
