Playing US NTSC wii games on PAL machine

Postby chocklo » Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:25 pm

A couple of years ago now I purchased the Data East Arcade Classics for the wii thinking that a Freeloader would do the trick. So, I purchased a Freeloader as well.

When the games arrived, I powered on my wii, opened a can of Diet Coke, toasted myself a crumpet, then settled down for some Bad Dudes action.

......the b*stard didn't work!

Can anyone suggest a product, convertor etc. that would allow me to play NTSC games on my PAL wii?

Or, do I have to get it modded?

If I have to get it modded, any suggestions on what needs to be done, how much it costs and a recommendation on who to approach?

I'm after a cheap solution since it's my one and only NTSC game.

The easiest way i found was to soft-mod my wii, but i dont know if that is allowed to be talked about on this forum? hopefully a admin can let me know as i cant find a rules post reguarding this. Im guessing its ok since your only using it to play a retail game but i dont want to get banned.

*By the way its totally free to do, so please dont pay anyone.

Nice one! I understand what you mean about the 'dark' element of this though - cushdie. You may have already given me enough to go on to start googling. Ta.

As far as i am aware only some off the freeloaders for gamecube work on the wii, but the ones that work on the wii state so on the front off the box, just had a look to see if i had a wii one which i did have a month or so back so i could send it through to you in the hope you could fire up ntsc games but looks like i have sold it.

It was similar to this one which i did have, but it was a gamecube freeloader small disk like a gamecube game but said it would also work on the wii.

Hiya Arma_dillo lad,

cheers mate. The Freeloader that I bought swore on the front that it worked on the Wii - but, my wii wouldn't have none of it....

Nintendo patched the Wii Freeloader out in one of the system updates, to prevent it from working.
