I've always had a retro feel with the Wii from the start. I think there are quite some gems for the console and the Wii will get much more love in the years to come when it comes to collecting.

I have about 50+ games myself.

When I still worked at a store, I kept taking things like Sega Bass Fishing including the rod home, still have these all sealed. Let's Tap is another example. I've always thought Wii was worthy of collecting. :)

A bit of strange day today. Went to Grainger Games armed with my Mario Galaxy 2 to straight swap it for Boom Street. When I got to the till, the assistant only offered me £14 for my Mario Galaxy 2. I pointed out that CEX was giving £18 and therefore I wanted them to match it. Unfortunately, I'd left my phone at home so I couldn't prove it and the assistant couldn't be arsed to check online (he was doing the ol' 'the policy is for me to prove it' routine).

Ah well, I'll have to get it next time. So, held on to my Mario Galaxy 2. I decided to have a browse through the games anyway. Nestled on the shelves I found this. Almost wet myself! I just paid for it straight.

Image

That's what I love about wii collecting. It's almost impossible to find decent SNES stuff etc. in the shops anymore, but wii collecting gives me a new lease of bargain hunting life!

had an absolutely stonking week this week for wii collecting. Mostly around Asdas and CEXs. managed to get rid of over 10 Disney princesses around the West Midlands so I've got loads of Cex credit vouchers to spend on wii goodies. Picked up a few goodies in the process. I didn't want to be potentially stuck with loads of Disney Princess U-Draw packages so I've been buying them in fours, then trading them in. All the while I've been keeping my eye out for a £30 twighlight princess special bundle. Well, after 6 Asdas later and no luck in that dept I gave up.

Today I visited the Crossgates centre (grainger games) but didn't see anything so went for a jollie in Leeds. En route, I decided to get 3 more Princess packages (Asda killingbeck) to offload em on to the Leeds Cex (checked that px was still £26 first). Anyways, i had sneaky peek into the stock room when the assistant opened the door to get the princesses. On the shelf, sparkling was a lone copy of the Zelda bundle. Yesssss! £30!! geddin!

In total, the Disneys and the Zelda came to £75. I knocked in the Disneys for £78 and bought some games that I'd avoided for a while- go vacation and sports mix (cos I think theyll fall in value pretty soon). the Go Vacation was £18 and thr Sports mix was £15. I also spotted a Marbles! so I hastily grabbed that as well (£18).

So....for my £75, I got

Zelda, Limited bundle
Go Vacation
Mario Sports mix
Marbles!

....and a Cex voucher for £27.

My whole week's been like that. Lovely collecting! got to the point where I've count of the number of games in my collection but I think I've well breached the 300 mark.

Damn guys, you had me all excited there was Zelda goodness I didn't have haha

I grabbed mine from my local Sainsburys a few months back, they had 2 at £52 and the other one is still there, I keep checking to see if they'll reduce it but no luck yet.

over the past month there's been a few lovely box sets. Got the Zelda, Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles and as of today, the Pandora's Tower boxes all in a neat little display. Looks great and is probably the most I've used my Wii in years. It may be it's last legs, but their good ones!

Nice job on the Skyward Sword bundle, I'm just glad I was able to get the US equivalent. Especially given most US online retailers got bugger all stock of it compared to bricks and mortar shops.

I've been collecting Wii games for a few years, not 'collecting' in terms of trying to get every game, just action games etc. which I'd actually play. There are several Wii games which are obscure, though it's still easy to get hold of some cheaply right now, the prices are going to rise once the system carks it and people realise that there's a wealth of obscure titles which will be compatible with their new Wii Us.

To me the Wii is the successor to the PS2, there's still variety and kooky games which aren't CoD or Mass Effect.

Yup, totally agree that there are tons of undiscovered games out there. Due to the boxart etc., it was easy to write them off as shovelware, but some of them could be decent and by the time everyone finds out about them, they'll be gone.

I really like point n click games. They look a bit kiddyish, but I'm looking forward to Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam coming through my door (I've recently purchased them).

Another game that I've discovered (and purchased) this week is Vertigo. looks like a marble/kula/monkeyball type game - never heard of it but looks quite promising....

Funnily enough I've got my eye on Pajama Sam as well. Sure, it's a kiddy-game, but the voiceovers and animation are excellent and there are times when you want to relax not be challenged with tough gameplay and gore all over. I hope to pick up Fragile Dreams soon, before the price spikes, wasn't expecting these Rising Star titles to rise in price again so quickly but they seem to be drying up.

OK Chocklo, you asked about what could be future rarities in your first post. Now I'm not the rarity-type collector so this is just an inkling but I think some of the following may be of interest:

The Island of Dr. Frankenstein - a younger-player focused adventure game. Picked this one up in Grainger Games. It has a European age-rating in addition to the PEGI rating, if you look on Ebay they're all carrying it. This one though does look like a future collectible, haven't seen it in any other store despite it being fairly current.

Castlevania Judgement
Eledees
The Munchables - Japanese games like these, fairly early in the Wii's life cycle, may be common but are the type of games to suddenly disappear into collections then not be seen - I'm thinking Jumping Flash for the PS1; no end of the things one minute then a rare find in the wild all of a sudden.

PS2 conversions/PS2+Wii joint releases - There are several of these, the fact that they're effectively just PS2 games may have impacted on their sales, I don't mean Okami (though that will be collectible in its own right, but hardly uncommon). In particular:

Despicable Me (already not a common game)
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (fairly common compared ot the others, may suddenly become scarce)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (picked this up in the Game sale, never seen it before)
Rygar (was recently sold off at £5 a copy in online stores - many units made though?)
Asterix at the Olympic Games (later released on the 360 - never seen a copy)

Kids titles are abundant and may hold collecting opportunities, a lot of this will be shovelware however.

On top of this there's the adventure/RPG/Japanese usual suspects as you've mentioned, everything from Chocobo's Dungeon through to One Piece Unlimited Cruise, several of these have already become collectible and hiked in price. The same goes for both Endless Ocean games, despite being advertised on TV.

One final thought is the small but interesting survival-horroresque contingent. Cursed Mountain, Ju-On: The Grudge, Calling, Escape from Bug Island. These aren't rare, certainly not Cursed Mountain and Bug Island, but anything with horror is the kind of thing which will gather interest and disappear into collections once stocks start to run out. Apparently a re-working of Project Zero 2 (Crimson Butterfly) is also in the works, could either sell very well or be produced in low numbers and become an instant late-life collectible.

@ Lock n Quay - I'd agree with a lot of the above. Are you daring to go for the full set? :)

I'm quite surprised at some of the stuff that can be found in Graingers. It sort of replaced Gamestation as a good source of different games.

On a different subject, I was thinking of dropping a snipe bid on this -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diva-Ballerina-Wii-/180868343705?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item2a1c97e799

but decided against it. It's just looks soooo wrong on multiple levels. I'd have a job explaining why this was in my collection if it was spotted in my lounge..... :D
