Re: Most you have paid and most you would pay for a single g

I honestly can't remember what the most expensive single game that I bought was. I know that I paid a smidgen over £400 for Super Chase HQ recentlly - but I can't remember what I paid for Whirlo.

How much would I pay for a single game? Well, for weeks I was pestering an ebay seller called something like captnhowlingmadmurdoch to give me his Darxide for £850 and he wouldn't have none of it! :) So I guess that proves that I'd certainly be willing to pay that much. (I wonder if the seller comes on here?)

I think that's about the limit though. Beyond that, you're talking about AES stuff and I've never had a desire to go for the high end AES games. Something about the piracy scene really puts me off. Some of the piracies are excellent and the only way to tell the difference is to open up the cart. Unfortunately, once they're opened, you can't put them back together without them looking like 5h1t, so it's sorta self defeating.

I cant see me paying more for a retro game than I would for a new one tbh so £40-£50, but my SNES collection so far owes me a total of £35ish, thanks to some good buying of lots and selling the excess.

Retrowise - I think ~ 40 EU for complete Act Raiser 2 - and my limit is somewhere around 50 british pounds mark.

next gen ... my most expensive was PS3 60 GB at launch 560 EU ... aproximative (with 2 games and 1 extra controler) / most expensive game (present from my wife - I didn't payed with my own money but still) ~ 160 EU God of War III Ultimate trilogy edition (brand new from store)

Most extraordinary thing I got -> Nintendo M82 demo unit - for free with a bunch of NES games :).

Some statistics :

From sep 2009 until present I've spend ~ 14.000 EU on videogames :) (acording to my calculation) acquiring ~ 2000 games/consoles/accesories. ( including - 2 PSV - i've lost 1 in a plane after ~ 48 hours lach of sleep / 1 3DS console / 1 PSP go / ~ 100 collector edition games ) so the media is ~ 7 EU / item which I consider decent, probably around 5 EU / item is I add to equation the purchases from 2006-2009, the "grey" area when I just started collecting and I was deorganised.

I never sell games (maybe only to my closest friends and I don't "rip them off" so in general if I've payed 15 EU for Terranigma (whitch I did) I offered the game to a friend the for ... 15 EU :) / that's why I prefer to do trades).

I finance my hobby from my salary not from "reselling".

I've been trying to think what the most expensive game is that I've bought. At a guess, it'd be Evolution 2 (£65 ish), with a fair few others coming close to £50 (including 2 today). It's only really been DC stuff I've paid highly for, and most of that has been funded by selling games I got for cheap prices.

The worrying thing when looking at it though, is that is dwarved by the amounts ive paid for current gen stuff. £100 each for the Gears of War 3 and Skyrim box sets, several collectors editions close to £70.

As i'm now solely focusing on DC collecting (with a bit of Mega CD thrown in), it's just waiting till decent games come up for sale at a decent price, so no real pressure now that the PAL set is complete. At some point I do want Panzer Dragoon Saga and Snatcher, but they can wait till a decent time. The most i'd pay for a game? It would depend what it was. £100 would be a psychological barrier to me to be honest.

It is difficult trying to justify spending £100 or more on one single game. It was hard for me at first when I bought Alien Soldier for the megadrive, once I clicked the buy it now button I then began to regret doing so but once the game arrived I was very happy. :D

I refuse to pay over 100 quid, but I do tend to trade-in stuff if I really want it anyway.
That's my one rule, you want something expensive then you'll have to sell or trade something of what you already have.
Can't let the collection turn into one huge money pit.

What game was that out of interest?

Ah, mystery mystery... it was a Commodore Vic20 game... if you follow high priced games, you might be able to figure it out...

I'm not sure what's the most I've spent on a single game; usually I tend to buy bundles of games or consoles with games so I can get a better deal! I think the most I've spent was around £180 and was for a bundle of 8 Nintendo 64 DD games, 7 of them boxed complete with just the F-Zero X Expansion unboxed. Still gotta get 2 games for the system but they're around £180 apiece so maybe somepoint in the future! :D

Not sure what my max limit would be for a game, although if I had the money, I would have bought that boxed copy of T-Mek for the 32X by now and it's sitting at £2899 BIN! Maybe if I ever get rich I'll be able to have a copy of that game haha ;)

mr_gibbage wrote:With the Lakers vs Celtics post in the ebay topic with a £750 purchase, got me thinking - what is the most you have paid and what is the most you would pay for a single game (job lots etc do not count, I do mean for a single game).

My personal limit would be about £300 I suspect, although the most I've paid is £220 which I did recently on Syndicate Mega CD (and Samurai Shodown I paid £200 for recently also!).

£35 for banjo tooie - but would pay a lot more for some N64 sealed games like banjo kazooie and Zelda ocarina (my two fav n64 games).

315 Euro for Smurfs 2 but that is the limit of what I'd ever pay. Second was 175 and that one stung hard.
Now, I'll probably stick to 100 Euro max, but there aren't too many games out there anymore that I need :)
