Documentary Series On Collectors

Postby HobbyIntervention » Sun Mar 25, 2012 9:29 pm

Hi There,

I hope you don't mind me posting here. I'm a casting producer with Jupiter Entertainment in New York and we are currently working on a groundbreaking series for a major television network on the nature of collecting.

Please find our official casting call below:

Jupiter Entertainment in conjunction with a major television network is currently looking for stories for a new, groundbreaking series on the effects of collecting.

Do you or does someone close to you have a hobby turned obsession? Has their seemingly harmless extra curricular activity become a full-blown addiction? Is their time consumed by their obsession to collect to an alarming extent? Perhaps they have an addiction to Fantasy Sports, role-playing, or the thrill of winning eBay auctions. Is their obsessive behavior affecting their finances and personal relationships? If you or someone you know has an unhealthy addiction to their respective hobby, we would like to hear their story.

Email us at hobbyintervention@gmail.com to share your story.

Best,

Kristen

To be frank with you Kristen, it is a bit naive to come to a retro collecting forum asking for participants, than calling them obsesive self destructive crazy people...

To be honest, some people who collect do end up finding it becoming destructive, and some of them don't realise it. It takes other people to point it out. I've actually been filmed for one documentary looking at collectors in the past, so I might be interested hah hah... only problem being if it's all done in the US...

well he/she posted it in the forum here, where it is almost only europeans, and it doesnt say they only are looking for americans, so if they are interested they would problay travel to the UK to film, unless they are on a low low low budget (like Evil Dead budget or something  )

I don't know why shows like this have popped up everywhere recently, but they're usually bad news...
Unless of course you just like being on TV, but they rarely show your hobby/lifestyle in the way you want it and more often than not they make it, and you, look a lot worse than the reality.

I've been approached a few times, so I just want to put out a warning for those who may be considering it XD

Note above. I took part in one documentary, and there was nothing accusative, leaning or demeaning about it. It was left to us to talk about and explain why we collected, what we thought of our perception in the media, and in my case, I was a bit self deprecating. But I agree, sometimes that isn't the agenda on the table...
