Uhm, mate, you can easily check if a game was released as PAL-A in our very own database. E.g. take a look at City Connection. On the lower left it says (under Specs), NES Lockout PAL-B. Which means this only saw a PAL-B release, vice versa for PAL-A. If it doesn't say anything it was released in both forms. Anyways, I think only about 10-20 games or so didn't see a PAL-A release so in general a game does exist as PAL-A. Most exceptions are the Spanish exclusives and German exclusives like Banana Prince.

I'm afraid I don't know much about the differences between PAL-A and PAL-B. I'm guessing it's just games released in different regions?

The PAL A and PAL B thing puts me off full set collecting for the NES. I can handle NTSC and PAL. By default, since collecting games as a kid, I built up a fairly decent PAL A collection. But, since many of the PAL B titles won't work on my std UK NESs, I've never really gone for them.

Thus, I don't really know much about NES. But am I right in saying that PAL A games work on Aussie, UK and Italian machines and PAL B is the rest of Europe? Hence, it's more than games being released in certain regions, moreso a case that PAL B won't work on UK (Aussie and Italian) NESs.

Chocklo, you do know that all you need to do to run PAL-B games is cutting one single pin from one chip on the PCB?

Surprisingly, it isn't. You literally only need a screwdriver and about 10 minutes of your time. Once it's done, you can play ANY NES game, be it Pal A, B, or NTSC (Not famicom though)

But seriously, what are the differences between PAL A and B? Is it just regions?
