Dedicated Arcade Cabinets - Who's got one?

Postby adam763 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 10:53 am

So, I was wondering, how many of the Retro Collectors on here have gone the full-hog and has a genuine dedicated cabinet residing in their home?
I'm dreaming of building a home arcade in around 3 years time (when funds and space are more readily available) and have spotted a few posts on here where other forum members have one or more dedicated cabinets already.
But how many of you exactly? And what have you got?

i've only got a mame cabinet but would love some original cabs, nothing better than playing an arcade the way it was meant to.

when i was at uni my flatmate had a powerdrift cabinet though (i was a tad jealous of that)

Presumably it was an upright cab (not the hydraulic sit-down cab?)
I've built loads of MAME cabs, but I'd love the real thing, and plenty of them - and none of them would be set to free play, I'd have to 'insert coin' when I wanted to play..!! 8-)

actually, dont suppose you know how to set the coin slot to work on a mame cab, mine has one and the mech is wired up to pc but no idea how to get it to work with mame. Want to use it as a fundraiser as some point :D

Is it an original coin door mech, or one of the generic (cheaper) types that register a coin by comparing it with a coin housed inside the mech (the one's sold at Ultimarc, for example). Alternatively, if checking the coins isn't a priority, you can attach a microswitch at the coin's exit route from the mech's chute.
Oh, and one thing to consider is legally, *we're* not allowed to charge the public for using emulators :?

Presumably, that coindoor (as it's already connected to a PC) accepts only one type of coin? AND those two yellow wires are where it's connected to the PC?
Almost every coin door requires 12v for power, and connecting the unit to an encoder requires a maximum of 5v (or you'll fry your expensive iPAC (or whatever the PC is using).
I think your best option is to measure the total size of your coindoor and if the size is the same, swap it for a new door and mech from Ultimarc (http://www.ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=9) or Gremlin (http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/produ ... bundle.htm) and connect these up to the encoder.

I have a few dedicated arcade cabinets.

And there's a short vid of the game room setup. I've got a few more cabs that aren't dedicated as well, but they're just fun to have.

Your cab looks to be in really nice condition matey.

Do you just own the multi cart for it or have you got any other games?

Thanks matey - I just got it with the 108in1 cart... that seems to cover the best of the games :)
