Have to give Gunstar Heroes a mention ;) My jaw hit the floor when I saw the Mega Drive doing things to sprites that the hardware was just not supposed to be able to do. A magical moment in gaming for me.

I spent many an hour on Speedball 2 and PGA Tour Golf back in the day; Revenge of Shinobi & Streets of Rage II for their gameplay AND fantastic music; Thunder Force IV and Hellfire for my shmup fixes; Strider was a fab coin-op conversion and the two games that made me rush out and buy a Mega Drive.....Sonic the Hedgehog and Castle of Illusion

megadrive is my favourite console. i have almost every traditional shooter across the regions. the sort of games i buy are really only ones i'd play. can't afford to collect sets and i will never have the room. would be nice though.
my top titles are:
thunder force 4
gunstar heroes (huge Treasure fan)
alien soldier
strider
streets of rage 2
gaiares
hellfire
gain ground
to be honest there are sooooo many i love
one game i'm unsure about seeking is panorama cotton. it's very expensive and i'm not sure i'd like it
i've found two copies of pirates of dark water in the past. sold one...might still have the other. might possibly trade it. if i remember it was actually quite a good game for a **** cartoon.

Another MD collector here :D

Currently just x52 off a full PAL set with x3 more due this week putting me down to x49.. 8-)

Once complete I'll be moving across to the PAL Master System and UKV Gameboy as well as continuing to collect the PAL MD varients (blue classics, paper bag classics, aus exclusives, jap exclusives, genesis exclusives) etc...

And yes I fully agree with you Stew - I also set off at a pretty fast pace and now im nearing the full collection its slowed down quite a bit.. thats partly caused by me collecting for a ton of other systems and getting easily side-tracked as well as having quite a few of the more pricier titles still to get... lol And yes im guessing part of me doesn't want to finish because its been such an enjoyable thing to do... :D

That Everdrive box is awesome! Did you make/print it yourself? It puts my rough and ready Evander Holyfield Boxing cart with the Everdrive inside to shape.

To add a bit of mix to this thread, I've photographed two of my unusual Mega Drive games:

Image

The obvious one is the awful pirate clone of Donkey Kong Country. While it is awesome to see it in action on the Mega Drive, it plays horribly and is nothing compared to the original. Video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrxfntxFdHw

The other cartridge is just the most bizarre combination ever. Despite featuring artwork on the cart from what I believe is Whiplash for the PlayStation 2 and also saying Taz-Manla on the spine (yeah, that's an L instead of an I), this is in fact the pirate's take on bringing Pokemon to the Mega Drive. It's a pirate known as Pocket Monsters 2, which is equally as awful as the DKC game and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8zeCM06BDY

To say I enjoy these oddities is an understatement. This however is probably my favourite, Mega Man X3 for the Mega Drive.

Had a good go on Megaman WW tonight. Managed to kill off 3 of the bosses before running out of lives on the fourth. Found it really enjoyable and thankfully the save function works so I can start from where I left off.

Well after completing my DC collection a while back I decided that the Saturn would be the next one but included any other Sega consoles in the also to be gotten sets so I pretty much grab anything I see/can afford that I need.
It's working out fairly well so far as I'm currently a 1/3 of the way done with the master system and a 1/5 done for the mega drive and just a little behind that with the Game Gear, obviously the Saturn is higher at 3/4 done now, and surprisingly also picked up a few Mega-CD (5) and 32X (3) games along the way.

Somehow managed to get Australian copies of World of Illusion (missing manual though) and Australian Rugby League (complete and different to the Euro version think this variant might still need to be added to our DB here?) from the local stores here too.
Responsible for PAL: Sega Saturn, MS Xbox & MB Microvision.

Still after a fair few games for the Megadrive, but those are mostly rarities.

Definately the most influential console for me. Without it, I doubt I'd be into gaming as much as I am today. I don't think I'll ever forget that christmas I first fired up Sonic 1 and 2.

Favourite games in no particular order are:

- The four main Sonic games
- Thunderforce IV
- Toejam and Earl 1 and 2
- Streets of Rage 2
- The Strike games
- Rocket Knight Adventures (not played Sparkster recently so can't comment :S)
- World of Illusion
- Dynamite Headdy
- Gunstar Heroes
- Micro Machines 2 (If 2 or more people are involved!)

There are lots more, but those would be the main ones.

Never really found main bargains for Megadrive out in the wild, although I did pick up a mint Alien Soldier in Gamestation about 5 or 6 years ago for £12. :)

I really am sticking dreamcast for now, but got the chance to trade for a boxed Megadrive 2 and a boxed MegaCD last week so thought I would take the plunge, had a Megadrive 1 for ever, so really was the chance to get a MegaCD.

Some of the CD games though are just so bad, its fun playing them just to try to get through :D

Always liked the box art of the Megadrive, Sega always seem to get that more right I think than Nintendo, and the boxes last, so nice clean collection, where again Nintendo everything always ends up squashed.

I will be picking the odd thing up when I come across it though.

I have to agree with this MD boxes were awsome,i have been picking up Dreamcast games recently and i wish Sega had just continued using hard case boxes like the Megadrive ones as they would of been better than the hinge broken DC boxes i keep finding. ;)
I also recall back in the day some parents and kids just throwing the Nintendo cardboard boxes in the bin as they had a short lifespan if not looked after. (collectors nightmare)

Hello, Jap MD collector here. Currently around the 200 games mark, with a nice variety of must haves and hard to finds in the mix. Still got loads of cheap as chips titles to get.

Favs include

Gunstar Heroes
Thunder Force III
Devil Crash MD
Contra
Elemental Master

Love the system for its shmups and am still gaming on the same MD I got in 1990.

Where else to ask this than here.
I'm looking to spice up our vintage game nights with some 4-player Mega Drive action. So far I've got Mega Bomberman coming my way, but what are the must have titles for 4 players?

Also need to get my hands on a multiplayer tap for the Mega Drive...

Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

Iirc Micro machines can do 4 players on two pads, and eight players on the JCart releases by using the two controller ports built into the cart

Good call with Micro Machines, quality little games!
A few others you can try are:
Pete Sampras Tennis
Gauntlet IV
NBA Jam
Worms
There are others but can't think of any more off the top of my head!

General Chaos supported 4 players, as far as I remember. Depends if that sort of game is your cup of tea, though.

Off the top of my head, there's also Columns 3, but unfortunately that's Jap/NTSC only.
