What Modern Games Have You Completed Lately?

Postby JoeMD » Tue Nov 22, 2011 2:18 pm

The name of the thread says it all, so let us know. :D

I just knocked over Dead Space 2. Really enjoyed the first game but feel this one is even better. It wasn't as scary as the original, but I found it more intense with some really stressful (in a good way) sections and some pretty epic set pieces. It did suffer from some similar problems to the original such as not being able to see anything when backed into a corner and that the 'bosses' repeated, but it was done in an interesting enough way. The end-of-game-boss was a right bastard.

Like all sequels, it upped the anty on the aspects that made the original successful. Here, it's defiantly the violence. There is blood everywhere and in some parts I looked away from the screen on instinct it was so graphic. I'm not against this kind of thing, but squeamish people really need to steer clear of this game!

Oh, and I felt that the exploding babies was a bit...tasteless.

I can understand why some reviewers felt the sequel didn't push the Dead Space formula enough as it's very similar to the first game. However, I think that it's enough of an improvement on the original to stand on its own. The ending totally sets up for a third game, so I'll be looking forward to that.

New Super Mario Bros Wii. Really enjoyed it too, unlocked and completed the game 100% though admittedly it was kinda easy.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - completed the game but couldn't be arsed going back to replay it as Luigi. Might do one day.

Mario 25th Anniversary Edition All Stars (Lost Levels) - First time I've ever completed it.

All of the other modern games I own are either too difficult, too long, too boring or just plain crap. Thats why my Nintendo Wii's main purpose is to act purely as an emulator for old consoles

I recently finished, but have not completed, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I don't know if I will actually bother trying to complete the whole game, as it kinda bored me. I also don't see the point of doing some tedious parts when you won't even earn an achievement for doing so.

Maybe one day I'll go back and clean it up but for now, I'm done with it!

^ Oh, I have finished the main story line of the game, I meant that I haven't completed everything like all the secondary missions and assassin's contracts etc. I also haven't downloaded the Da Vinci Disappearance DLC, which I will do eventually.

Dark Souls was the last modern game I completed next to Halo: Reach. Yet another boring campaign... I only completed it because it was co-op with some suite mates. Otherwise... heeeeck no.

Just finished off LoZ: Skyward Sword this morning. Not a bad game, I really enjoyed it in parts. I think some will love it, but I wasn't swept away.

What did you think was lacking?

Don't read if you don't want some moody nostalgia-head to give anything away

Well I didn't want to be specific in case people wanted to see for themselves, but this isn't probably anything new. The game was really missing that open-world feel that you get with Hyrule field in OoT (or TP) or the great ocean in Wind Waker. Even though it's bigger than say Majora's Mask or A Link to the Past, Skyward Sword's areas are completely segmented and closed ridding the game of that enticing discovery and journey feel that the others had.

I also found the actual gameplay quite tedious. It's basically do this three times; find three of these; it's a game that likes the number three (then again Zelda always has done). It just felt repetitive and I wan't very keen on the areas.

I don't really want to say much more for spoiler purposes. Zelda is a game that needs to be experienced for oneself and, like I said, I think the linearity won't put some people off and they'll love it. But simply because Zelda is one of my favourite game series', it's unavoidable that I scrutinise it quite brutally, which is a shame because it might hinder my ability to just enjoy it.

Oh, as good as the controls are, it gave me some serious wrist ache.

7-8/10 for me.

Over the last month or so, I have finished Deus Ex Human Revolution, Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City and MW3.

I'd say Deus Ex is the best of those with Batman after that. What a time to be a gamer 8-)

force unleashed 2, was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was as the first was a bit boring after a while (suppose the answer to that is make the sequel half the length  )

I recently completed the main story of Batman: Arkham City myself. While I enjoyed it I just didn't find it as amazing as many have said it was.

I actually feel bad about this as I know it's a great game, I just didn't has as good a time with it as I thought it would. I absolutally adored Arkham Asylum thought. I can't put my finger on what it is about Arkham City that doesn't gel for me.

Still I did enjoy it to a point but now I'm onto Sonic Generations. Bugger me it's good!

Finished Game Dev Story on iPhone. Got my brother hooked on the android version.

For those unsure it's currently 10p on android phones - a very good gaming industry related RPG!
