Postby hydr0x » Tue Sep 13, 2011 11:54 pm

Glad you bring this up as I was actually considering posting a similar topic a few days ago. Imho the DS is a great system to collect for. It has one of the broadest and best libraries of any generation with loads of well known masterpieces and hidden gems. It's also seeing rising prices for out of print games already so now is the right time to get in before it's too late. Which is exactly why I compiled my full wishlist for it recently. Unfortunately, that wishlist is currently 257 games long :( On a more positive note, I already managed to acquire 93 of those games so my "to buy" list is already down to 164. Still a lot, but there you go ;)

Here's my current collection, once I hit 100 I'll take a nice photo :)

ABC Murders, The (Agatha Christie's)

I have about 20+ games I really enjoy, but don't have a list ready. A game you both are missing and surely need before it gets too expensive is Suikoden Tierkreis. It's a truly collectible game for obvious reasons and is really great to play as well.

Nice, looks like you've got all of the expensive RPGs covered, I still need to catch up in that regard. I was watching a Suikoden yesterday but it was too expensive, after all I can still get lucky at Gamestop and similar stops regarding that title. I did pick up Chrono Trigger though as that sold extremely poor over here so the chance of finding it in the wild is close to zero.

Excellent lists there hydr0x and gunstarhero!

I've been looking into a little known game, Zombie BBQ. Trying to track down any clues about a physical release in Europe - but to no avail. All I've found are some promo box arts from tinycartridge.com looked amazing:

Image

I really need to get Super Princess Peach and Mario Basketball before they go for silly money.

I'm also looking out for Bowsers Inside Story - the GBA Mario RPG was amazing. Anyone played the DS version?

No European release I'm afraid. It's on my "need to import" list. Only got one import so far which I forgot to mention above. Contra 4 ;)

Thanks for the heads up, had no idea these are getting expensive already. I need at least Princess Peach.

I started playing it a while ago but had to stop after a while (no time). Up to that point I was enjoying it tremendously.

Gamestop's copy of Another Code had a ripped cover :( Still, was able to pick up Giana Sisters DS and a cheap new copy of Prince of Persia: The Fallen King. Also found a sealed copy of Neopets Puzzle Adventure at another store. I know it's only poor man's Puzzle Quest (with Othello instead of Match-3) but at 5€ I couldn't resist. So my count is now 96, 97 if you include Contra 4. Some of these are still at cauterize's place though :/

It seems any unusual Mario games will become classics in years to come. I'm personally looking out for the last first-party Nintendo games released on the DS - look at Mario Baseball and LoZ TP on Gamecube. They can fetch silly money on eBay - especially if sealed!

I might have gone a slightly different way with the games I've purchased, then again, they've been almost all for play, so that does count out a fair few RPGs as I'd never have the time. Most of the Euro release purchases were either because it was out here way before the US, or exclusives.

I'm sure you're aware of that but all of those were also released in Europe. Which of your other japanese games can you recommend as hidden gems?

Nice heads up for the Giana Sisters DS, thank you. I'm going to have to track that one down ;)

I've got my money on THOR being a very pricey rarity in the future. Fantastic reviews but poor sales (probably because of perceptions of film licensed games, but this is really one of the exceptions). Also Okamiden is already not the easiest game to find. I did find Metal Slug 7 at a car boot for £1 last summer, which was rather marvellous and Contra 4 is well worth the import as its increasingly unlikely to see a European release.

Chokkan Hitafude was released in the West as Polarium. Most of my Japanese purchases were either due to them being cheap, having little English text, dual language (hence Gyakuten Saiban, not Ace Attorney), or Club Nintendo Japanese releases. Jump Superstars is worth it, if you can dig through how to play and have an interest in the characters featured.

Received Nervous Brickdown today and apart from the fact that the ball movement is a bit random and the transition from top to bottom screen doesn't work very well it's a blast. I think that's mainly due to the soundtrack :)

Bought Fire Emblem on DS today for £1 at a bootfair. It has the original Fire EMblem on GBA inside. God knows how A) the shop worker missed that, or B) how the person who bought it didnt notice it.

Btw I knew it was the GBA game, I can pick up the loose cart :)

I think that was released as DSi-ware over here if I'm not mistaken, but no physical release.

Thought I'd share my collection while I was at it. :)

The few imports I currently own. Not tried Ouedan 2 yet, but I absolutely destroyed the first one. Not actively going for imports, but there are a few RPGs I wouldn't mind picking up that never came out over here. Waiting for a few more 3DS games to come out too (like everyone else!).

Did Giana Sisters get a UK release by the way? Had a quick look on eBay and it sems there are only a few German copies.
