Dreamcast Collectors Unite

Postby GMass » Sat May 14, 2011 8:19 am

I'm currently going for a Dreamcast PAL full set (15 to go). I know there are a few others here doing the same, please make yourself known here.

The Dreamcast was the first console I picked up at a midnight launch and has loads of fond memories attached to it. It was the console that introduced me to online gaming (and huge phone bills), allowed me to be part of on great online community (Newsgroup - UGVD) and the games were amazing - JSR, Shenmue, Space Channel 5..wow!

I only have the urge to start collecting last year - where I picked up a Dreamcast bundle on a whim from a member of NTSC-UK and I was immediately hooked. I've had loads of fun collecting - picking up bundles of games for next to nothing, the endless pursuit of cases that aren't smashed to pieces and of course joining this site to write all about it.

Well sir, you know where I am in all of this ;)

It would be good to know who else is going for the full set. I've got loads of DC games for trade from completing the set myself, so happy to help out where I can.

After recent discussions on the forum about the dreamcast and it's games. I feel like i should go for a complete set, i currently own 96 games with most of the rare ones covered like taxi 2, moho, capcom games and whatnot.

I own the full set, it was my first collection I actively bought games for as I had the luck of finding loads of sealed games at a local shop back in 2003 I think. Got a sealed Shenmue 2, Evolution 2 and others that way. So I had a good head start and just went for the full set, finally completing it earlier this year with the purchase of Samba de Amigo. Hadn't bought a DC game in years before that

It's a nice set but highly overrated unless you really really love arcade games. Add the DC's horrible controller and noise and it gets less playtime from me than you'd expect...

I have over 100 dc games, never thought of going for a full set though. As you should all know by now my first love is nintendo, though the odd bit of Sega does me no harm. ( yes before chocklo asks , yes there mint lol ).

Regarding Moho, is it rare? Asking as it was in my litte retro shop today for a fiver, I'm not into the £££ value on the sega side of things as I'm to busy with me nintendo lol.

You cannot beat Crazy Taxi :)

Yes the Dreamcast version of Moho is rare, you should get £50+ back on Ebay easily or pick it up for me as I could do with a replacement manual (damn p/o in black pen!).

I'm always tempted to go for a Dreamcast set, but the remaining titles bar a few are nothing other than shovelware really. I think, as hydr0x says, the set is just a collection of decent arcade ports and multiplatform releases.

However negativity aside, if you're able to gather a collection of non-damaged blue PAL cases, they look incredible all lined up :) Maybe that's worth collecting for alone?

Do any of you collect the homebrew releases?

It's quite attractive as it's an achievable full set to procure without having to sell body parts

Once I've finished off the main collection I'm going to branch out to homebrew and import titles (don't tell the wife!)

Ah, Electronics Boutique! They really seemed to disappear from the High Street without me noticing, what happened did they lquidate, rename, or get taken over? I get quite nostalgic about 'disappeared' chains- Our Price, Rumbelows, Bejams, Safeway, C&A, Granada TV, Radio Rentals, and Tandy- the home of my first job before I realised that retail was not the well-paying job I had presumed!

As for DC collections, i'm on 110 when my next couple of titles arrive.

Electronics Boutiques bought Game, changed their name to Game and then bought Gamestation.

I'd forgotten all about Our Price.

I've always dreamed of having a full PAL dreamcast set. I cant see it happening though. I am missing some big releases like Taxi 2, Evolution 2 e.t.c. Also I have Samba de Amigo in the Big Box (PAL) but it had the Japanese game inside. I was gutted when his happened but I thought the chances of me landing another one were slim so I held onto it.

Most of what I have I bought new though. When it was released I was obsessed with it and can remember being absolutely gutted when Sega pulled the plug on it.

This and the SNES are probably my most played consoles.

Game is an awful name. EB was a classy name and had a great logo.
I'm off to open a shop called Food. Bye!

I'm pretty close to a full Dreamcast collection, mind you I have been for a while now  . Only 5 to go, but I just don't want to pay the sky high eBay prices for the remaining few.

I'll get there in the end

I'm managed to collect 75 or so Dreamcast Magazines (complete DC-UK, ODM plus a selection of DM and DCM). Love flicking through the pages.

I've got the complete demo collection from the ODM, but i don't own one magazine  I used to pick the demo discs up free off the counter at GameStation.

The only complete magazine collection I have actually is Official Sega Saturn Magazine :)
