Okay peeps - loads of pics coming, but hopefully of use:

First up, the standard stuff

Digital Dreamware - with ELSPA sticker and UK barcode on USA long box (this is the actual game that I purchased myself from Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street back in the 90's)
Image

Demolition Man - with ELSPA sticker on USA long box
Image

Hell: A Cyberpunk Adventure - with ELSPA sticker on the box front. Unlike the other two games above, this sticker is on top of the shrinkseal packaging, so I have had to keep this game sealed to show that it is the European version. If I was to open this, then it would be impossible to differentiate this from the USA version (so yeah, keeping some games sealed when you are a collector and preservationist is necessary ;) )

Now for the good stuff (as in the really hard stuff to find, not the interactive "games" themselves):

Supermodels Go Wild - with cert 18 stickers on the rear case insert, instruction booklet/case cover and disc, plus the UK registration card
Image
Image

Mind Teazzer - with cert 18 stickers on the rear case insert, instruction booklet/front cover and disc
Image

Immortal Desire - with cert 18 stickers on the rear case insert, instruction booklet/case cover and disc, plus the UK registration card
Image
Image

Sex - with cert 18 stickers on the rear case insert, instruction booklet/front cover and disc
Image

You may also have seen that Blonde Justice (as noted by Tinsair) appears on the back of some of these inserts along with some of the other Vivid Interactive releases. The Coven also exists, but I've not seen one with the UK certification. The other game advertised here, Steamy Windows, was apparently cancelled and never made it (?evoked images of Tina Turner and soft-core -eeeww)

Brilliant!

All added to the list I've compiled, thanks a lot gunstarhero :)

Any more info from anyone would be great, hopefully a PAL list can be made on the database with the info gathered so far.

Sex - the most unsubtle title ever.

Do you know if those were sold in high street retailers Leigh or were they more "specialist" outlets

I was living with my ex-girlfriend in Brighton when the 3DO was current-gen and I remember seeing some of these "Interactive" titles in the local HMV (these were not on the shelves with the general games though, these were in a different place in the store). I have owned a 3DO since launch day here in the UK, so I did pay attention to what was being sold back in the day. There were a couple that I recall seeing that I am trying to find now, but I guess you have to also consider that this was Brighton, which is one of the most liberated cities in the country, so I cannot say whether another branch would have stocked these too.

Incidentally, the game Mind Teazzer has some of the greatest level save password codes of any game I've ever come across. My copy has the level password codes written in biro within the manual on the designated page where you could record these. Want to go straight to a higher level? Then simply enter sexual swearwords in conjunction with various sex toys on the password screen

Yep, that's the BBFC sticker on the Supermodels disc that I was talking about - glad I wasn't imagining things! It's a really crap 'game' though. Perhaps it was edgy back then but with what's available online today, it's almost a PG-rated thing in comparison

I'd love to play all of these out of curiosity but even when I still had the 3DO, they were impossible to find and always too expensive on ebay. Might just Youtube 'em ;)

I think it all depends on what you define as a PAL release regarding the 3DO. To me the American games with ELSPA stickers on them are just that, American releases that had to have these stickers in order to be sold here in the UK. I don't consider these PAL releases but if other people do then i'm fine with that too.

This chap over on the Retro Gamer forums is after some info on this mash-up and whether it's a legit release or not. Thought I'd post it here for him to see if anybody can help.

Pretty sure that's a made up game

I see a Shockwave and Shockwave: Operation Jumpgate listed on eBay like this a few weeks ago, pretty sure that was made up too.

I did think so.

Was just ever-so-slightly curious as:

a) both games are Crystal Dynamics releases
b) the vague documentation of 3DO releases
c) in case it was some form of obscure pack-in title

But yeah, I do think that it's just somebody's custom job. Not sure why you'd want to do that though.

I'm inclined to agree with you both too - if this was a legit release, why have the front cover for one game and the rear cover for the other? Surely you would have the front cover for both or at least feature both games on the same side like some compilations do? I saw that Shockwave combo on eBay too and thought it was a bodge job

I picked up the 3DO version of SPACE SHUTTLE yesterday at the Video Game Market in Doncaster. Not quite in the condition I would usually want for my collection, but it was £9 and you may notice a couple of significant stickers on the outer box that prompted me to get it :)

I absolutely respect fellow Retro Collect member BEARDS! hard work on compiling the 3DO PAL library - I am just happy to be adding these ELSPA labelled games to my collection when the opportunity allows because they were available at retail here in the UK, not because I'm challenging any other views on what constitutes the official PAL set ;)

3DO is a great system. It had some pretty creepy games like D, Sherlock Holmes, Killing Time, and a few good fight games like Yu Yu Hakusho & Street Fighter Turbo. The controllers could be better.

I have single case Killing Time with no regional markings on the manual, back cover or CD. It does however have a warranty card that states it is valid for the UK only. Not sure if this one has been mentioned before, but having a quick scan I couldn't see anything.

Edit: Barcode number is 7 90561 01592 5

Yeah, that's already listed on my list. I think maybe your case may have been replaced though, hence no BBFC Rating stickers.

Another couple of pics for this thread.

Looks like a standard North American long box from this view (although the North American version's front cover was notably different to this):
Image

However, the rear of the box has reference to the French and German languages contained within the internal single jewel case game printed on the rear of the box to clearly identify this as the PAL region version:

Re: 3DO Discussion

The system is region free. (A small number of game discs are region coded) I have a PAL FZ-10, which I got for the Alone in the Dark Games, a few gun games, (of which I'm missing the gun) and admittedly to get the best visual (non PC) versions of the FMV games.(Among others)

The thing that bugs me is that many games (even the PAL versions!) play in letterbox on the PAL system. Apparently that's because the resolution is different. (Which is news to me) But I don't really understand that, as I'm pretty sure American screens aren't tiny by comparison to PAL. I suppose window boxing is preferable to blowing up the image, as you might loose the sides of the picture.

Hope this is of use - maybe of interest to Tinsair (the fact that the following exists in print rather than the content! ;) )

The final issue (that I am aware of) of 3DO Magazine here in the UK. Issue 15 - October 1996

Advert on page 7:

The mail order offers for the aforementioned adult media in this thread.

These old magazines are an interesting read - there is a list of games that were supposedly released in the UK and consist of several games which some have suggested do not count towards a PAL set because the ELSPA ratings are stickers on the North American boxes and not printed specifically for PAL regions. I shall compile a list of those which are recorded and note them here in due course
