Sega Megadrive Variant Collecting

Postby Punisher » Fri Oct 30, 2015 12:01 pm

Hi Guys,

I thought Id start a thread about the Sega Megadrive variant collecting. Now i'm sure everyone knows how passionate I am about the weird and wonderful variants I like collecting. I have had great fun and had to put a lot of effort into finding some of the rare commodity's. I have had to deal with many great people all around the world to acquire some of these rare items.

I was hoping others could post what they have found or if they are similar like me in collecting the different covers or different name titles (same games though).

Is there anyone else like me who go variant hunting and what are you after currently?.

I did consider doing a bit of variant collecting for the 2600, but only for specific titles. To be honest though, the console is a headache when it comes to variants. More so than any other console, probably.

That's what makes it more interesting. I dont really bother with the games that have exactly the same cover just a different name. I like the different covers. Il put some photos up of what I have so far later today.

When it comes to videogames, I don't really get variants, there are some games that I would not mind getting variants of, but I don't really try to find variants of videogames. In comic books I do collect variant covers and different language releases of certain comics. I personally enjoy collecting comicbook variants and have been wondering why people who collect videogames don't speak more about collecting variants. It's great to hear that there are videogame collectors who are going for variants, I have a lot of respect towards that. I would love to see some videogame variant covers.

Ive only seen 3 of those in the past. Do you only get them from UK? I dont have any of the ones you have yet, I do have a few variants of just the basic MD1 box with the different included games.
