RetroCollect FM - Retro Gaming Podcast - Issue 13: Catastrophic Coin-Op Conversions

RetroCollect-FM-Issue-13-Coin-Op-CatastrophiesGrowing up we all dreamed of the day arcade-perfect gameplay would arrive at home. While it may have hit our living rooms much earlier than expected, the journey there left behind a shed-load of tragic ports and attempts to re-create the coin-op magic.

Needless to say, there is more than enough to talk about with abysmal ports. With the likes of the six button fighter being crushed down into the Commodore Amiga's single button control scheme, to the mere-cash-grabbing (lack of) effort that is Pac-Man on the Atari 2600, gamers were often lied to in terms of quality.

But that's not all, to cheer ourselves up as we talk about the industry's failings, we also take a look at titles which spanned multiple platforms under the same name, but still received different games on each. Take for example Jurassic Park's quirky point and click Mega CD title compared to its Mega Drive platformer and Super Nintendo 8-way shooter.

So whether or not you're still reeling over wasted pennies on promised arcade quality - or the lack of - be sure to tune in to RetroCollect FM for your regular dose of retro gaming banter with hosts Chris, Tom, and guest host Phil Hockaday.
