RetroCollect FM - Retro Gaming Podcast - Issue 10: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

RetroCollect-FM-Issue-10-TMNTBy 1989 the entire world was shellshocked into Turtle Fever. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had reached the masses through radical action figures, awesome cartoon action, and of course the wicked on-going comic. Next on the on the half-shelled reptiles' plans for world domination was video games - something they most definately exc-shelled in.

Starting out on the Nintendo NES, our four teenage anthropomorphic turtles - named after Renaissance artists Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael - had a debut on the home console like no other. Although an incredibly difficult game, the exhilarating action of 1989's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coupled with a catchy soundtrack and unique gameplay elements had gamers all around the world screaming for more.

Many of us, however, will no doubt remember their first shelled-experience in the video game world being pennyless. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' arcade debut was possibly one of the biggest coin-muchers of all time, and for good reason. Konami had introduced an addictive brawler which effectively had kids all of over the globe pumping in credit after credit to keep blasting through the cartoon-like-action.

With plenty of memories to be had from these early offerings, quirky LCD games, further hits from Konami, and of course more questionable recent releases, the RetroCollect FM hosts have more than enough to discuss. So come join RetroCollect FM hosts Chris, Tom, Katsu and Adam as they each assume the role of a turtle and smash their way through TMNT video game history.

Finished this last week, really enjoyed it, massive fan of the turtles back in the day, sadly the Arcade game is no longer on Xbox Live Arcade, as went to check it out. Apparently the licenses lapsed.

That sucks, have you played the awful Activision Turtles game on XBLA? I wouldn't.

Wayforward are making a new Turtles game for 360/PS3/3DS. Looks a lot like Turtles 3 on the GameBoy in terms of gameplay mechanics.
