RetroCollect FM - Retro Gaming Podcast - Episode 4: Segata Saturn Sanshiro

RetroCollect-FM-Retro-Gaming-Podcast-Episode-4-Segata-Saturn-SanshiroAfter a long, and very much enjoyed Winter break, RetroCollect Squad's Chris and co-hosts Adam and Karl are back once more to debate another retro gaming console. With plenty of games worth shouting about, join us as we talk about the loveable catastrophe that is the Sega Saturn, alongside the bizarre plans its Japanese creator carried out for the launch of the 32-bit system. Here's episode four of the RetroCollect FM podcast.

Everyone loves the Saturn, but you cannot deny how much Sega messed up the console's lifeline. Despite having ground-breaking titles, one of the best control pads out there and stunning arcade ports, the Saturn was very much obscured by the Sony PlayStation's shadow. Never the less, we sing the praises of the fabled 1994 system and talk about our greatest Saturn memories.

Feeling nostalgic? Let RetroCollect FM's host Chris and co-hosts Adam and Karl take you on a 32-bit journey to a time when Sega were still contenders in the gaming hardware world.

The Saturn was a 2D powerhouse and i will always love it. In the UK the launch price was far too high and Sony just nailed cool on the head didnt they, it never stood a chance here.

I love you SEGA......Wipes away tears

I wish we had longer to talk about Saturn to be honest.

I haven't played Panzer Dragoon 1 or Zwei, but I'm with Chris based on Orta which I think was more absorbing than Lylat Wars. I don't think it has aged as well though.

Ah, another excellent podcast, cheers gents!

One title not mentioned which i'd include on the list is Dungeons and Dragons. I've always loved the capcom scrolling beat em ups and my favourites of all time are the D&D games which were lovingly packaged together on the Saturn.

Great episode! Loved to listen to your toplists. I bought my Saturn just so i could play Guardian Heroes. And i still play it today!

But regarding the Podcast, i still don't understand why you never mention or talk about retrocollect.com?? retrocollect.com is an amazing site with the news section and the database, forum etc. and when you started to podcast i though you would have some segments in the podcast where you mention whats going on at retrocollect, but no, nothing.
Now its like Retrocollect FM does not have anything to do with the retrocollect site! Thats just strange. But besides that its still a great podcast!

Great console. Anyone more interested in the kind of stuff (SEGA) should read the book "Service Games". Sheds a lot of light on this period of SEGA, and the many, many, many bad decisions and choices they made.

Any-hoo, the Saturn was the first console I had that was mine, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart because of it. Before then, it was a shared Master System and Mega Drive with my brother. It deserves much more coverage then it gets, and had some phenomenal games.

Anyone know if the rumours of the "lost" code for Panzer Dragoon Saga are true? Would certainly explain it's complete lack of any remasters/ports etc.

Great podcast guys by the way! Keep it up.
