ZX Spectrum ‘Football Manager’ Updated For The 2016/17 Season

ZX-Spectrum-Football-Manager-1982-2016-17-UpdateFollowing on from Leicester City’s heroics in the Premier League last season, it’s safe to say that everyone’s been eagerly anticipating the return of football. With the Football League 2016/17 season kicking off this weekend and the Premier League soon to follow it’s the perfect excuse to dedicate your gaming lives to the addictive slog that’s Football Manager. Instead of opting for the highly refined and realistic releases Sports Interactive have brought in recent years, it’s time to head back to the series’ roots with the unofficial 2016/17 update for Football Manager on the ZX Spectrum.

While it may be the most primitive game available in the genre, we owe so much to the 1982 release which effectively spawned countless other football simulators over the years. This unofficial update to Kevin Toms’ creation not only brings along various data updates, but also a selection of new features too. This includes player leadership values, code optimisation to speed up the game, the ability to invest into fan clubs, and the addition of Trinidad/Tobago and Vietnam to the team rosters.

For those of you wanting to experience this monumental release with modern teams and data, be sure to head on over to the official Football Manager 1982 Revisited website. The updated game can be downloaded as either a TZX or Z80 file, both of which can be enjoyed via emulation or on the original hardware using a DivIDE.
