ZX Spectrum's Brand New Homebrew RPG 'The Tales Of Grupp'

Tales-of-Grupp-Released-for-ZX-SpectrumGet ready to dust off your ZX Spectrum once more, as yet another new adventure has hit the classic computer! Homebrew developers Retrobytes have returned with an impressive top down role playing game, with familiarities found in the likes of Top Trumps cards and the Barcode Battler too - all of which has been released for free in The Tales Of Grupp.

Arriving as one of the first homebrew releases for the ZX Spectrum this year, The Tales Of Grupp proves there's plenty of high quality releases to come in 2015. Featuring detailed and chunky colourful sprites, Retrobytes latest title has you taking control of Grupp as his handsome hide attempts to kidnap the king's nine daughters. Dotted throughout the kingdom are the needed keys, all of which are surrounded by the much expected guards and enemies. How you beat these obstacles though is surprisingly different and a refreshing twist on the genre.

Grupp starts out at the equivalent of a level 1 adventurer in RPG terms, however, instead of fighting to boost his abilities, the player must collect the many different pills and power-ups strewn around the land to strengthen his chances. Upon encountering an enemies, the game switches to what appears to be a traditional J-RPG battle screen, only this time round a trading card style panel is shown beneath each fighter showing their current statistics. With stamina to also keep an eye on, you'll also need to make Grupp defend the occasional attack, bettering your chances of striking again with a more powerful blow.

Needless to say there's plenty on offer within this homebrew release and its one that fans of the ZX Spectrum should definitely check out. Playable either through an emulator or on the original hardware via a DivIDE adapter, be sure to download The Tales Of Grupp and get questing on your ZX Spectrum once more.
