Atari's Record Breaking World's Largest Game Of Pong

worlds-largest-game-of-pong-videoThis month marked the tenth anniversary of the Kansas City "City Lights" celebrations, with most larger buildings in the Barney Allis Plaza area taking part. Atari themselves got involved and ended up submitting an entry to Guinness World Records for the World's Largest Game Of Pong.

In case you missed it, Atari saw Pong celebrate its 40th birthday this past month ahead of it's first official release on iPhone and other Apple platforms.  And what a way to celebrate your birthday.

Mike Hurd, the marketing director for the Downtown Council, and member of the City Lights organization committee, had this to say:

“This will be a holiday lighting ceremony will be like nothing you’ve ever seen. We are working with Atari, who is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Pong, to alert the Guinness Book of World Records that the City Lights ceremony is competing for the world’s record for giant Pong.”

The record was indeed broken by Atari, and may well have created its own category within the annals of Guinness World Records.

Were you at City Lights?  Do you know anyone who was?  We'd love to hear from you!
