Virtua Fighter 2 (Sega Mega Drive) arrives on the Apple App Store

Sega-Mega-Drive-Virtua-Fighter-2-on-the-App-StoreHaving recently seen some retro game gems hit the App Store, this recent release from Sega comes as a bit of a surprise. Virtua Fighter 2 has arrived on the App Store, but instead of the fantastic Sega Saturn version, it's the questionable Sega Mega Drive version.

Sega presumably (at least by looking at their existing Sega Mega Drive line up on the App Store) have a perfectly working Mega Drive emulator built for the iPhone, allowing them to churn out numerous titles rather easily.

With Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Shining Force, Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes (to name a few) already on the App Store,  it's safe to say that Sega is slowly releasing their back catalogue. Sadly, compared to the these titles, the Mega Drive version of Virtua Fighter 2 does not cut it.

However, should you still be considering this purchase for your iPhone, here is a quick reminder of the game in action:

I actually really like VF2 MD. Although not in any means ground breaking, it was a solid little fighter, plenty of moves and something different to all the Street Fighter clones.

I also thought VF MD was a solid game.
