US Equivalent Of GamesMaster ‘Starcade’ Airs Again Online

Complete-Series-of-Starcade-OnlineA good decade before the Brits were enjoying Dominik Diamond’s raunchy humour on GamesMaster, North American gamers had their very own video game TV show known as Starcade. Three decades after its original air date in back in 1982, the production company behind the show has decided to gift the series an online home with every episode ready for watching.

Starcade was very similar to the likes of GamesMaster and Bad Influence, putting various contestants up to the challenge of amassing high scores and conquering others on the show in-game. While there was more of a game show element present in Starcade, everything we know and love about gaming and the culture from this era is present in a GamesMaster-esque fashion.

The most interesting aspect of Starcade is seeing the many different arcade cabinets that were used in each episode, along with its Golden Joystick equivalent for each episode’s champions. The lucky winners of each episode of Starcade didn’t go home with a spray-painted game accessory, but instead an actual arcade machine.

Luckily for US gamers who grew up watching the show, Starcade is once again watchable. All 133 episodes of Starcade have been made available on the show's official website for free. Here’s to hoping Channel 4 and ITV will soon follow suit and put their flagship video game shows up for digital download in the near future.

Strangely addictive show back then & now. Not sure why it didn't come back after the '83 crash.
