Upcoming Intellivision MicroSD Flash Cartridge HIVE Out Now

Intellivision-Flash-Cartridge-HIVEBack in July 2013 it was announced that a MicroSD card enabled flash cartridge was heading to the Mattel Intellivision. After a good year in the works, fans of the retro console will be pleased to know that they can finally get their hands on the newly named HIVE cartridge.

On Friday the creator of HIVE, GroovyBee, made an announcement on AtariAge that his first batch of flash cartridges are now available. This early pre-production run, although limited to just 20 units, will feature everything the later offering has, albeit without a box.

Arriving at $75 per cartridge, HIVE is set to storm the Intellivision scene with its unrivalled features and specifications.

  • No DRM
  • microSD based so it works on Windows/Linux and MAC without additional software.
  • Based on Bee3 cart technology.
  • Professionally manufactured.
  • Support for *.bin+*.cfg, *.int, *.rom game ROMs.
  • Legacy games and prototypes do not need a *.cfg because they are auto-identified.
  • Support for long file names and folders.
  • 512K of on-board flash for game saves.
  • Provides hardware accelerated features for new homebrew games.
  • Upgradeable by the user.
  • Load/save menu/bios configuration settings

Needless to say, if you're a fan of the Intellivision you'll be wanting one of these kits to play the likes of BurgerTime, Bump 'n' Jump, and Astrosmash without an original cartridge in sight.
