Unreleased Super Nintendo Platformer ‘Socks The Cat’ Hits Kickstarter With Cartridges Up For Grabs

Socks-The-Cat-Protoype-KickstarterSocks The Cat is perhaps one of the most unusual characters to ever be granted an entry into the video game world. Being none other than The First Pet of the White House during Clinton’s reign in the 90s, this feline protagonist was set to claw its way through spies, the media, and political figures invading Washington DC. Although ending up as an unreleased Super Nintendo title, the game has finally been resurrected through Kickstarter.

The game itself has become somewhat of a infamous title over the years, and perhaps one of the most sought after unreleased games out there. Having been cancelled following Kaneko USA’s closure (shortly before the game’s release), a prototype copy of the game has exchanged numerous hands in the last decade - with retro gamers growing hopeful that a playable version would eventually be made available. The latest owner of Socks The Cat has decided to not only cover their costs purchasing the game, but to go as far as seeking a license to release the game during the on-going presidential campaign.

Due for release in July 2017, a pledge of $40 to the Socks The Cat Kickstarter will secure a physical cartridge containing the game, whilst $75 and upwards will bring a boxed copy and other rewards. The Kickstarter campaign is hoping to raise $30,000 in the coming month with a good chunk of the total already raised.
