Thanks to yet another generous video game historian we can now enjoy an additional Super Nintendo game which never saw the light of day. Falcon, an unreleased flight simulator from Spectrum Holobyte, has been preserved online in ROM form which can now be downloaded.
The Falcon series was a popular and long running range of flight simulators for home computers featuring the F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft. In several gaming magazines Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo ports were announced with accompanying screenshots, however, nothing was ever seen beyond these small snippets.
A few weeks back a prototype cartridge of the unreleased Super Nintendo port of Falcon surfaced on eBay and sold for an impressive £207. The seller also had a selection of other interesting prototypes including the forgettable (and understandably unreleased) attempt at a Batman title by Software Creations.
While we have no idea where Batman and the other prototype cartridges ended up, we do know that the unfinished SNES port of Falcon has landed in the right hands. The new owner has since written up a quick look at the prototype and also made a ROM of the cartridge available on his website to download.
