Unreleased Sega Game Gear ROM Of 'WildSnake' Preserved Online

Game-Gear-WildSnake-Prototype-ROM-ReleasedFor nearly two decades the team over at SMSPower have been hard at work to preserve Sega's 8-bit history. Alongside their efforts to document the rich software library, the fan site have also been key players in getting long lost and unreleased titles into retro gamer's hands. The latest of their efforts brings into play the Game Gear port of the 1994 puzzler WildSnake.

Released in 1994 for both the Super Nintendo and Game Boy in North America, WildSnake was an interesting take on the Tetris concept whereby players had to guide downwards different sized snakes to make lines. These incoming snakes could be twisted into any shape you desired, therefore eliminating those tricky gaps you always ended up with in Tetris - as long as you could control the slippery slithering blocks.

After buying a large lot of gaming goods, SMSPower member and Sega collector Dyer60 got in touch with the team behind the fan website, informing them that he had stumbled upon what he believed to be an unreleased title. Following an archival effort, SMSPower have now released the game’s ROM online for free in yet another one of their preservation projects. Those who happen to have a Everdrive GG or even a Game Gear emulator to hand can now sample what was intended for Sega gamers all those years ago.
