After a fairly slow week for retro gaming news, SMSPower have managed to feed our pixel addiction by releasing another unreleased 8-bit Sega title online. Crazy Faces, a cancelled sliding puzzle game for the Sega Game Gear featuring plenty of familiar faces, has been preserved and made available to download.
Crazy Faces, developed by The Kremlin (who brought the likes of Prince of Persia, Desert Strike, and James Bond 007: The Duel to the Master System and Game Gear), was due for release in 1993 but was cancelled for some unknown reason. The game was set to feature various characters from both Domark and Sega franchises, including Sonic the Hedgehog, in an unusual twist on the sliding puzzle genre.
Unlike the common approach to the sliding puzzle, Crazy Faces starts you off with a blank grid, which you must summon puzzle pieces into. These pieces can then be pushed around as if they were on ice, only stopping if their is another piece or wall to stop it. While sounding simple, this is actually one tough puzzle...
