Kameo: Elements of Power originally started life as a Nintendo Gamecube title and was set to become one of Rare's flagship titles alongside Starfox Adventures. Upon Microsoft's acquisition of Rare in 2002, development moved over to the original Xbox, shortly before being reworked into a Xbox 360 title ready for the console's launch. The early unfinished Xbox version, however, remains intact and has been leaked online.
While Kameo didn't really make much of a mark on the video gaming world in 2005, it did show plenty of fresh and unique ideas that would have been much more influential during the Gamecube era. Regardless Kameo is now one of those titles you can find relitavely cheap in second hand shops which is still worth picking up.
The unfinished Xbox version of Kameo was recently discovered by a member of the Assembler messageboards. Member Ghostseed purchased a development Xbox console not too long ago which contained not only the unfinished version of Kameo, but also a prototype of a Spyro the Dragon game. In just two weeks, enthusiastic retro gamers worked together to preserve this piece of gaming history - one which can now be enjoyed by anyone.
A downloadable disc ISO has been leaked online over at the Assembler messageboard. In order to enjoy this unfinished title, you will need access to either an Xbox emulator or a modified Xbox console that can run backup discs. Should you be unable to play this for yourself, why not check out the game in action below:
