Unreleased Nintendo Virtual Boy 'Bound High' Gets A Limited Edition Fan Made Cartridge Reproduction

Unreleased-Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-Bound-High-Gets-A-Limited-Edition-Fan-Made-Cartridge-ReproductionIn 2010 the minuscule library of Nintendo Virtual Boy titles was bumped up by a single digit upon the arrival of an unreleased game surfacing online. The previously missing-in-action ROM of the 1996 bounce-em-up, Bound High, has been so well received that fans have created their very own cartridge reproduction - which is now up for grabs.

For those just familiarising themselves with Bound High, the fabled Nintendo Virtual Boy release was a three dimensional ball bouncing sequel to the obscure Game Boy cult classic, Chalvo 55. Poor sales for the console presumably saw the finished title shelved to never be seen again, at least until a prototype cartridge of the game was preserved and released online.

The combined efforts of several members of the Virtual Boy fan site Planet Virtual Boy have brought around a reproduction copy of Bound High, one which could almost be mistaken for a retail release. Instead of selling the cartridge on its own, a full colour and correctly sized Bound High replica box has been created, along with an authentic looking manual to match the game's content.

These homemade Virtual Boy cartridges are being sold for $75 including postage worldwide, however, they're being made in extremely small numbers. With just a few remaining, Nintendo Virtual Boy fanatics might want to get a move on.

This cart was first released for trade around a year ago. The person behind the project said that if one ever hit eBay (or the like) that it would spell the end for reproduction carts. Well, one finally did. What really upset the community was how bad they felt for the person who purchased it. They paid around $250. Only if they had done a bit of research they would have stumbled upon the PlanetVB.com page were community members were trading Bound High! carts for donors. I personally got my copy (one of the first 32 made) for right around $15 (donors + shipping).

This new reproduction project works with the original creator, but adds a box, and a manual. However, at $70-ish USD it is a bit pricey for some. While the first release was geared towards the average VB owner, this one is definitely geared towards collectors and completest.
