Where unreleased games are concerned, the Resident Evil series is often considered the most desirable of all, often said to be hiding plenty of secrets. While many have already written off seeing the unfinished version of Resident Evil 2 (aka 1.5), it would appear the prototype of the Game Boy Color port of Resident Evil 1 is set to surface online.
If you're not familiar with Capcom's efforts from 199, the Japanese studio commissioned UK based studio HotGen to somehow crush the entire PlayStation survival horror title into a tiny Game Boy Color cartridge. Proving that nothing is impossible, the studio somehow pulled off an incredible feat which resulted in jaw drops around the world once official screenshots surfaced in gaming publications worldwide.
Sadly though this technically impressive achievement and the efforts of HotGen were eventually lost as Capcom pulled the plug on the 8-bit portable version of the Racoon City mansion adventure. For the last decade, many were in belief that the game code had been lost, at least until footage of the game in action began surfacing on Youtube in 2007.
Since then many have waited patiently for further information or even the promise of playable game code to be released to the public, something which has now become a reality.
Kiff over at the AssemblerGames messageboard (who is in touch with an anonymous owner of a Resident Evil Game Boy Color Prototype), is currently running a fundraiser on behalf of the owner to accumulate enough funds to cover a public release of the game code. The fundraiser is open until late February next year, where the owner hopes to raise $2,000 before releasing the ROM.
Given the rich history of the series and amount of die-hard Resident Evil fans, you can almost guarantee this target will be hit sooner or later. That said, should you want to help out towards finally getting the chance to play one of Capcom's long lost mysteries yourself, be sure to put your money down on the table and contribute to the cause. Who knows, maybe Resident Evil 1.5 will see a similar release sooner or later!?

Every now and then I discover new gems on the GBC that really wow you in the technical sense. The most recent title to do this was Dragon's Lair. They could've taken an easy route with the license and turned it in to a cheesy cutesy platformer, but instead, they somehow managed to cram in a decent conversion of the full blow arcade version. Gameplaywise, that may not be that impressive but technically, what a massive achievement.
It was 90% completed. There's a part where your meant to open a door, but it doesn't open. The game only goes so far, so I'm hoping fans can complete the rest! :)
