Unreleased Game Gear & Master System Ports of 'Lemmings 2: The Tribes' Preserved Online By Original Developer

Unreleased-Lemmings-2-On-Game-Gear-and-Master-SystemIt's safe to say that Lemmings is a classic puzzler that just about everyone has experienced. Spanning just about every console and computer ever made, it came as no surprise that the sequel was gifted similar treatment. Of these many releases, both the Game Gear and Master System versions of Lemmings 2: The Tribes appeared to fizzle out without a trace. As of today though, one of the developers tasked with this 8-bit Sega port has surfaced online and released downloadable ROMs of both versions.

This fantastic preservation effort comes directly from Matt Taylor who was working at the Lincolnshire based development studio Spidersoft in the nineties. Taylor has been detailing his colourful past in the gaming world on the SMSPower forums, returning this weekend to his anecdotes to share the long forgotten Lemmings 2 code in ROM format.

According to Taylor's discussion regarding what went on behind the scenes of Spidersoft, the Game Gear and Master System versions of Lemmings 2 were canned by Psygnosis in 1994 - despite being finished - due to the high production cost and dwindling market of 8-bit Sega systems.

Nevertheless we can all finally sample yet another long lost piece of our gaming past that was originslly thought to be lost.
