Unreleased Game Boy Color Port Of Resident Evil 1 ROM Leaked Online

Unreleased-Game-Boy-Color-Port-Of-Resident-Evil-1-ROM-Leaked-OnlineAlthough the deadline was set for February 29th, the entire retro gaming community has pulled through and managed to meet the target for the Resident Evil Game Boy Color prototype fundraiser much earlier. This unexpected arrival has in turn brought around the ROM of the unreleased Resident Evil GBC port to be leaked online today for all to enjoy.

Having been missing in action for over 13 years, Capcom’s bold attempt to compact the 1999 survival horror title can now be enjoyed in its unfinished glory. Both the original cartridge owned by an unidentified source and RetroCollect member N64rick’s generous donation of a second prototype have now been made available to download online.

Our first impressions of the game are very much what we expected. Something technically impressive by Game Boy Color standards, yet a game sporting obvious reasons as to why it remained unreleased. And despite being much simpler than its PlayStation 1 counterpart, this release still holds plenty of horror within.

With living proof that a community fundraiser can be more than successful, here’s to hoping the unfinished Resident Evil 2 prototype (Resident Evil 1.5) will soon follow from another unidentified source.
