Unofficial 'Super Mario 64' HD Remake In Development

Unofficial-Super-Mario-64-HD-Remake-In-DevelopmentOften defined as the greatest 3D platformer ever made, Super Mario 64 has captivated countless gamers since its release in 1996 with its fantastic level design and flawless transition from the series' two dimensional roots. With Nintendo clearly pushing the series down new avenues, a group of collective fans are unofficially giving the N64 title a HD remake.

Although a long way from completion, YouTube user Chadtronic recently uploaded a developer showcase demonstrating the direction this fan-made project is heading in. Starting out with a near perfect imitation of the game's opening sequence, Super Mario 64 HD goes one to show how incredible Peach's castle and beyond could look making the most of modern hardware.

Further within various tech demos of Mario bouncing around platforms are shown, along with a fantastic 4-way comparison between the original game and the various levels of detail that have been applied to this fan-made project - once again leaving countless retro gamers desperate for more.

The team are currently looking for extra hands-on-deck for Super Mario 64 HD, something which will hopefully begin to materialise into a playable release in the near future. Until then, be sure to take a glimpse over one of the most perfect fan-services you could ever hope for.

Why Nintendo haven't already done something like this on the Wii U is a mystery to me. If a group of fans can create something that impressive, imagine what Nintendo themselves could do? It's be cool if they add extra little touches, like guards in the castle for example or wildlife in the grounds etc.

Agreed. Couldn't they just use the Super Mario 3D World engine and just recreate it that way? It's money left on the table.

I grew up playing this and to see it given a new lick of paint is fantastic, I will gladly wait with anticipation for this.
