Unofficial Server Revives Support For Nintendo DS & Wii Online Functionality

Unofficial-Nintendo-Wi-Fi-ConnectionJust mere days ago, Nintendo's servers which allowed both DS and Wii gamers to play online with each other were sadly shut down. With the likes of Mario Kart DS and many of the Pokemon games suffering from this decision, some dedicated fans of the now outdated systems have come up with an alternative.

The newly launched unofficial Wi-Fi Connection server brings back alive matchmaking and similar core services that were once available to the Nintendo DS and Wii. While this unofficial offering is still very much under development, it already boasts fantastic compatibility with a range of classics.

To get going with this unofficial Wi-Fi Connection and gaming online with you Nintendo DS or Wii again is rather simple. Nintendo DS owners only need to adjust their Wi-Fi settings to point elsewhere, whilst Wii gamers have a little more work on their hands.

Tempted? Well here's a list of titles confirmed to be working with the unofficial Wi-Fi Connection on the Nintendo DS:

  • Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
  • Bomberman Land Touch! 2
  • Gauntlet
  • Jump Ultimate Stars
  • Mario Kart DS
  • Metroid Prime Hunters
  • Picross 3D
  • Phantasy Star Zero
  • Star Fox Command
  • Tetris DS

Full instructions on how to connect to the unofficial Wi-Fi Connection can be found on the site's Github page.

How long until Nintendo shuts them down?

Dunno, but it would be nice if they respected the wish for maintained online interaction or even supported the transfer to this unofficial network. I don't see why that wouldn't work as long as it isn't used to pirate the console.
