Exactly a year ago this week it was announced that an unofficial port of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D was in development for the Sega Mega Drive. As of today a considerable amount of progress has been made in bringing the first person shooter to the 16-bit console, all of which is now ready to blast through yourself.
Over the last year, gasega68k of the SpritesMind forum has periodically been returning to his on-going thread to detail, discuss, and release the many playable versions of his unofficial port. These releases have gone from nothing more than walk-around tech demos, to fully fledged playable offerings of the 1992 FPS.
Now arriving at version b10.5, gasega68k's Wolfenstein 3D if anything looks even better than the official release that hit the Super Nintendo. Not only are the visuals much clearer and less pixelated, but the Mega Drive equivalent also scrolls smoother than ever on Sega's console.
So should you be either a fan of the original shooter or a Mega Drive fanatic, get ready for some true blast processing. The latest version of gasega68k's Wolfenstein 3D has been made available to download as a Mega Drive ROM on the project's on-going thread.
