Unofficial Nintendo NES Metroid Prequel ‘Rogue Dawn’ In Development

Metroid-Rogue-Dawn-NES-ROM-Hack-AnnouncedIn a similar style to the recently announced Banjo-Kazooie sequel, Metroid also looks set to receive yet another entry in the series, albeit an unofficial one. Metroid: Rogue Dawn is a newly announced prequel built from the ground up by hacking the Nintendo NES original and adding in some stunning new visuals and fantastic features.

Judging by the screenshots alone, Metroid: Rogue Dawn is without a doubt going to be one fan-made project you don’t want to miss. Drawing inspiration from the later Game Boy Advance outings, this unofficial prequel features a graphical style you’d expect to see on the Super Nintendo instead. This enhanced look is further complimented by the additional new features hacked into the original such as new music, save game functionality, an in-game map system, wall jump ability, and added power through the change to the MMC3 mapper.

According to the prequel’s development thread, Metroid: Rogue Dawn is due to be released later this summer. Until then, feast your eyes on this quick clip of the game in action.

Looks like a good start, that main sprite needs a bit of tweaking still but looking forward to what they can do with level design.
