Unofficial 'Duke Nukem' Platformer In Development For The Sega Master System

Duke-Nukem-Master-System-Homebrew-In-DevelopmentBefore his days of kicking ass and chewing gum, Duke Nukem was following in both Sonic and Mario's platforming footsteps. First arriving in 1991, Apogee Software's MS-DOS adventure was anything but memorable - despite being an enjoyable shareware release - in comparison to its 3D follow up, but is that all about to change? One homebrew developer is creating an unofficial version of the 2D platformer for the Sega Master System, reusing all of the DOS game's artwork and assets.

Although this 8-bit recreation is anything but complete, homebrew developer Revo has just released a playable demo of his work. Duke Nukem for the Master System is built upon the Alex Kidd in Miracle World engine, replacing the Radaxian sprites with those of Apogee's original, all whilst creating brand new levels for the macho protagonist to explore. While this new release may be anything but licensed, it's interesting to see how one of Apogee's shareware classics could have fared on a console back in the day.

Those interested in checking out this in development title should head on over to the newly launched Duke Nukem for Master System website and download the 45% complete demo ROM.
