Unofficial ‘Doctor Who’ Nintendo NES Game Released On Physical Cartridge

Doctor-Who-Unofficial-Nintendo-NES-GameDoctor Who is one of those franchises with so much potential for a great outing on just about any console. As it stands though, the Time Lord’s appearances in the video game world have been rather disappointing. Attempting to make amends, one online retailer of Nintendo NES ROM hacks and homebrews has thrown together their very own Doctor Who title for the 8-bit system - one which is now available on cartridge.

We must stress that this all new release is anything but official, and heads into further grey territory given that the entire game is a hack of the 1988 Nintendo Famicom release Cosmo Police Galivan. Legalities aside, Doctor Who for the Nintendo NES features many familiar faces from recent series of the show, casting Matt Smith as the game’s Time Lord - all of which repurposed to fit the aforementioned platforming game's engine.

Judging by the game’s trailer you’ll face off against Daleks and other intergalactic beings, all whilst being treated to in-game cutscenes featuring stills from the TV series. Unfortunately there isn’t a ROM of this game available online, so those interested in checking out this unofficial effort will need to head on over to Etsy. A cartridge of the game can be picked up for around $50 (not including shipping).
