Unlicensed Russian PlayStation Release 'Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars' Gets English Translation

Crime-Patrol-2-Drug-Wars-Ported-To-PlayStation-1In late 2000, Russian developers unofficially ported the live-action laserdisc video game Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars to the Sony PlayStation. This recreation of the arcade title – one which also hit the 3DO – has just been translated into English, allowing those addicted to light gun games such as the likes of Mad Dog McCree to get shooting.

The original title created by American Laser Games in 1994 features everything you'd expect from the FMV genre – cheesy acting, basic gameplay, and a nostalgic reminder of what was once edgy in the nineties. Fast-forward to today and the questionable acting has not aged well, however, remains an enjoyable treat for those looking for some light-hearted gaming action.

This unofficial PlayStation port of the game will no doubt appeal only to the most hardcore Sony fans. Not only has support for light guns been removed and replaced with a cursor-based control method, but the audio has also been poorly dubbed over in Russian. Either way it's great to see yet another previously undiscovered retro game preserved online, even if its lack of storyline and reliance on clichés leave a lot to be desired.
