TV's GamesMaster Actor 'Sir Patrick Moore' Passes Away

TVs-GamesMaster-Actor-Sir-Patrick-Moore-Passes-AwayToday marks a very sad day for retro gamers, as the once all-knowing GamesMaster, Sir Patrick Moore, has passed away. The Channel 4 TV actor and astronomer who co-hosted the British TV show GamesMaster made a special mark on those growing up in the nineties - gifting games the lifeline they desperately needed.

Patrick Moore's appearance as the GamesMaster brought Dominik Diamond's Channel 4 hit to life. The actor's amusing yet arrogant character hidden behind a fuzzy video transmission, broadcast the latest cheats and tips whilst also setting contestants difficult challenges. The GamesMaster was a video game icon that gamers will never forget.

The TV series lasted much longer than any other of its kind and since then not a single video game show on the air has managed to come close in terms of viewership and length on the air. With 126 episodes spanning 7 seasons, there has never been a better reason than today to dust off your VCR and dig out those old recordings you made of GamesMaster back in the day.

Having helped us all out over the years with his infinite gaming wisdom and humour, it brings a tear to the RetroCollect HQ to know that Patrick Moore has died at the age of 89.

I used to watch this religously as a kid, this and Bad Influence were both awesome but Gamesmaster had much more of a fun factor whereas Bad Influence acted more like a consumer advice show.

Patrick Moore was the star of the show though, arrogant, funny but extremely likeable, he'll be sadly missed :-(

Sad news indeed. The man was a legend and easily associated as being the Gamesmaster from anyone my generation (and the generation prior). He'll be missed.
