Commodore 64 Classic Turrican Explodes Onto Apple iOS Devices

Turrican-Explodes-Onto-Apple-iOS-DevicesIn 1990 Manfred Trenz unleashed one of the most enjoyable home computer releases to date on both the Commodore 64 and Amiga. This hard as steel shoot-em-up platformer offered everything console games had been enjoying previously, all onto a single cassette tape and floppy disk. Fast forward to today, Turrican, has now been immortalised on touch screen devices and is now available on the iPhone and iPad.

This portable port of the Commodore 64 version of Turrican has recently been put together by Elite Systems - the publisher who seems determined to keep our classics alive on modern hardware. Priced at £1.49, the iOS port of Turrican is an emulated version featuring specially configured on-screen controls and exclusive extras such as save states and the History of Turrican.

While we'd be very surprised if anyone actually completes this title using touch screen controls, it's still a fantastic title everybody should have in their pocket at all times. Here's to hoping the Commodore Amiga version soon follows.

@editor: revision
Rainbow Arts published TURRICAN (C64) in 1990. Manfred Trenz had not only the idea, he also did all the coding and graphics for TURRICAN 1 + 2 (C64) and SUPER TURRICAN (C64) down to the sound, whereas the AMIGA versions of TURRICAN 1 + 2 were actually done by Factor 5.
