Tron Light Cycle Inspired Homebrew ‘Tro-Now’ Hits The Sega Mega Drive

Tro-Now-Mega-Drive-HomebrewThe light cycle sequence in the 1982 blockbuster Tron is a rather memorable one that threw its audience into the driving seat of a video game. The arcade machine based on the movie featured a rather addictive top down take on the speedy neon sequence, something which can now be battled out on the Sega Mega Drive.

Dubbed as Tro-Now, this 16-bit Tron homage was submitted to the homebrew coding competition Bit Bit Jam earlier this week. This annual event has seen some phenomenal contributions to the retro gaming community, with a fantastic selection of new ZX Spectrum, MSX, and Mega Drive releases arriving in the past - with Pocket Lucho of the Spanish development team 1985 Alternativo’s newly added Tro-Now being no different.

The key developer behind the game Pocket Lucho recently revealed their efforts on Twitter upon submission, with a gameplay video being shared on YouTube. Not only does this homebrew title capture the spirt of Tron perfectly, but it also arrives with fantastic presentation and even Mega CD compatibility with the Tron Legacy Soundtrack. If that wasn’t enough already, Tro-Now also features a four player survival mode (using the Micro Machines two players per control pad configuration).

Tro-Now can be downloaded from the BitBitJam website in ROM form, along with the source code for aspiring homebrew developers.
