Treasure's Critically Acclaimed Shmup 'Ikaruga' Arrives On Android Devices In Japan

Treasures-Acclaimed-Shmup-Ikaruga-Arrives-On-Android-Devices-In-JapanWe've said it before and we'll say it again, scrolling shooters work fantastically on touchscreen devices. Treasure seem to have realised this too as they're now following a similar path to the likes of Cave. Now joining Espgaluda II and DoDonPachi Ressurection on Android's Google Play store is the 2001 arcade smash hit, Ikaruga.

Sadly though, this new arrival is only available to those in Japan. Having arrived on the Japanese version of the Google Play store this morning, the Android port of Ikaruga restricts anyone from abroad attempting to download the shooter. The news unfortunately worsens for those with an Apple iOS devices, as the app seems to be nowhere in sight on iTunes.

While no official word is out, we're very much hoping Treasure will confirm that the critically acclaimed shooter will be heading over to European and American devices in the near future. Especially given the fact that the aspect ratio of mobile devices fits the tall scrolling shooter's playing field perfectly.

Until then, you can always look to the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo GameCube to get your fix of Ikaruga.
