Translated Super Famicom Exclusive RPG Star Ocean Reproduction Cartridge Now Available Via RetroZone

Translated-Super-Famicom-Exclusive-RPG-Star-Ocean-Reproduction-Cartridge-Now-Available-Via-RetroZoneBack in June 2011 RetroZone hinted that reproduction cartridges of Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VI, Final Fantasy V, Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean would all be made available sometime soon. Seven months later the first of these, Star Ocean, is now sitting proudly on their website up for grabs.

Although the 'reproductions' are a rather heated topic featuring both apprehensive gamers and supportive fans, RetroZone tend to avoid the bad press by using their trademark slogan 'No donor carts were harmed in the making of this game'. The newly announced Star Ocean features a brand new blue cartridge shell containing a brand new game board inside, keeping those donor cartridges alive and well.

For those yet to become familiar with Star Ocean are in for a treat. Like the many other RPGs mentioned above, the Super Famicom flourished in this genre with a wealth of fantastic adventures which never left the land of the rising sun. Star Ocean (developed by tri-ace and published by Enix) which falls into this category features a futuristic take on the overcrowded 'swords and sorcery' genre of RPGs, along with the addition fast paced real-time action driven battles.

While this game did see the equivalent of a HD remake on the Sony PlayStation Portable in 2008, nothing quite beats playing the original on the Super Nintendo hardware as the developers intended. Should this be your cup of tea, RetroZone's Star Ocean reproduction cartridge can be had for the sum of $70.
